If you like factory-built race cars with plenty of horsepower and a whole lot of brand rivalry, the Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown should be one of the categories to watch at the 72nd annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals.
More than two dozen Chevrolet COPO Camaros, Ford Mustang Cobra Jets, and Dodge Challenger Drag Paks are entered for the September 4-7 race at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. It’s one of the largest Factory Stock fields in recent memory and gives the category an appropriately big stage during NHRA’s 75th anniversary season.
At the center of the championship conversation is Jonathan Allegrucci. The Pennsylvania racer has dominated the middle portion of the 2026 season with three wins and a runner-up finish over the previous four events, building a commanding points lead heading into the Big Go.
Defending U.S. Nationals winner Taylor Dietsch is coming off a victory at Norwalk, former Indy winner Jesse Alexandra is back looking for another trophy, and reigning series champion Mark Pawuk is still chasing his first victory at drag racing’s biggest race.
Jonathan Allegrucci Brings A Big Points Lead To Indy
Allegrucci has been the driver everyone else in Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown has been trying to catch. Three victories and a runner-up finish over four races have put his Ford Mustang Cobra Jet firmly on top of the points standings.
Indy, however, is a different challenge.
“This is one of the biggest fields, if not the biggest fields of Factory Stock racers I can think of,” said Allegrucci. “It’s the coolest thing in the world, and that’s why we are doing it. Anyone who can relate to the class has to be excited to see all those Fords, Chevys, and Dodges on the entry list. It is going to be awesome. My first trip to Indy was in 2013, and when you go under that arch, that is a big feeling. It is not easy getting to Monday, and it really is a privilege to race on Monday. I would give anything for it to be us.”
Taylor Dietsch Returns As The Defending U.S. Nationals Winner
Taylor Dietsch already knows what it takes to finish the job at Indianapolis. The second-generation racer won the Factory Stock Showdown title at the 2025 U.S. Nationals and heads back to Indy carrying momentum from his most recent victory at Norwalk.
That Norwalk win came at Allegrucci’s expense, ending the points leader’s three-race winning streak.
Dietsch will also have another target on his back: the $1,000 Flexjet bounty.
“This race will be so exciting and I can’t wait to get there,” said Taylor Dietsch. “I feel good being the defending event winner for the U.S. Nationals also coming into the race having won the Norwalk Nationals. There are a lot of tough competitors on the entry list and it’s cool to see some new names as well as some veteran racers on the entry list. Getting the special 75th anniversary Diamond Wally at the U.S. Nationals would be awesome. There are four rounds of qualifying and then five rounds of eliminations so whoever wins will have earned it for sure.”
Factory Stock has become increasingly loaded with family operations, and several will be represented at Indianapolis.
Taylor and Jason Dietsch will compete in Ford Mustangs. Mark and Kyle Pawuk will campaign Dodge Drag Paks. Lee and Matt Hartman will also be in the field. That adds another layer to an already difficult weekend.
These teams share data, work together, and want to see the other car succeed, until they line up against each other. At that point, the family connection goes out the window for a few seconds.
Mark Pawuk Still Wants His First U.S. Nationals Win
Pawuk has accomplished plenty in Factory Stock Showdown. He is a two-time series world champion and one of the category’s established stars, but a U.S. Nationals win remains absent from his résumé.
Indy gives him another opportunity to change that. Pawuk will be joined by son Kyle, giving the Dodge camp two more strong entries in a field where every qualifying position is going to matter.
With more than two dozen competitors entered, nobody can afford to ease through qualifying.
Jesse Alexandra Chases U.S. Nationals Win Number Three
While Pawuk is looking for his first Indy win, Jesse Alexandra is trying to add a third. Alexandra won the U.S. Nationals Factory Stock title in 2021 and again in 2023.
That makes him one of the most proven Indy racers in the category and another obvious threat in a field already stacked with recent winners and champions. The combination of Alexandra, Allegrucci, Dietsch, Pawuk, and the other veteran competitors should make qualifying worth watching before eliminations even begin.
The Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown field at the 2026 U.S. Nationals has just about everything you’d want from the class: championship implications, manufacturer rivalries, defending winners, former champions, father-son teams, and enough entries to make every round meaningful.
