Pete Farber Racing’s weekend at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals Pro Mod race at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL came to an unfortunate end on Friday, September 26, 2014 after a wreck sidelined the team.

Starting the weekend off with high hopes, Farber and his crew prepped their supercharged CRC Automotive Brākleen ‘69 Dodge Daytona and were ready to go when the call to the staging lanes was made for the first round of Pro Mod qualifying.

Set to run in the left lane, Farber pulled through the water box and completed his burnout without an issue. He staged his car, and when the green light lit, he dropped the hammer and got started on what should have been a flawless run. Farber encountered unexpected severe tire shake almost immediately after leaving the starting line and the Daytona reacted violently. The car made a sharp move to the right, but Farber quickly corrected to keep from crossing over into the other driver’s lane and was able to avoid what could have been a catastrophic wreck. Both of the Daytona’s driver’s side wheels came off the ground before it made a hard impact with the barriers on the left side of the track. Farber’s wild ride didn’t end there, though, and the car ricocheted across the centerline to the right lane before coming to a stop around the 800-foot mark.

Thankfully, Farber’s expert driving skills and years of experience behind the wheel helped to keep him from being seriously injured. Farber walked away from the wreck without assistance, and was examined by NHRA’s emergency service officials who deemed him to be unhurt.

“We tore up the CRC Automotive Brākleen Dodge Daytona pretty bad, and the damage is extensive,” said Farber who now has many long (and expensive) hours ahead of him as the team rebuilds the car. Not wasting any precious time, a plan has already been put into motion so that they will be able to race next month in Las Vegas. Fellow Pro Mod racer Chip King has will be providing replacement body panels before the Daytona goes to Dan Page Race Cars in New Hampshire for repairs, however, Farber won’t be driving it again this year. Instead, PFR tuning advisor and friend Al Billes has generously made his ’63 Corvette available for Farber to drive at the upcoming event – the same car that Farber drove for Billes two years ago!
