On Sundays Kurt Busch suits up and climbs into number 2 car and competes in NASCAR, one of the biggest and more popular motorsports races today. Kurt has been a huge influence in NASCAR for a while now. He started young, racing go-karts and working his way up. Racing is in Kurt Busch’s blood as his brother and dad both raced in NASCAR as well. He has won a couple “Rookie of the Year” awards and won the 2004 Sprint Cup championship. After much success racing in NASCAR series, Kurt decided to try a different type of motorsport.
Kurt has his eyes set on the NHRA drag racing scene. He wanted a new challenge and drag racing was the key. He has been working closely with Roy Hill, going through his rigorous school that teaches him how to drag race and will license him in the NHRA Super Gas class, that he acquired last week.
He hopes to compete for the first time at the upcoming NHRA drag race in Gainesville. Kurt admits that he has butterflies but is prepared and ready for this new experience. He will be racing a 1970 Dodge Challenger powered by a turbocharged Hemi, allowing him to compete in the Super Gas (9.90) class. They also would like to run in the NMCA and IHRA.
Kurt is not the only professional racer that has changed their specialty – many drivers want to experience different types a racing. Recently Danica Patrick has crossed over to NASCAR for the Indy Racing League, hoping for new opportunities. As well as Pablo Montoya from Indy Car to NASCAR and Scott Speed went to NASCAR from Formula 1.
