Being able to break a record requires the right conditions, and having the ability to push your car to the absolute edge without going too far. For the legendary Nissan GTR platform, the biggest record yet to be broken is the magical six-second barrier in the quarter-mile. At TX2K17 some of the quickest GTRs ever built will attempt to become the first to dip into the six-second zone and settle some grudge races with some of the quickest 2JZ-powered cars in the world. You’ll be able to see these records fall and grudge races go down at Royal Purple Raceway, or right here on the SpeedVideo.com live broadcast.
Currently, the quickest GTR in the world belongs to English Racing with their monstrous 7.01-second pass. According to TX2K17 organizer Peter Blach, there are some other cars hot on ETS’s heels in search of that elusive six-second pass. “Right now, ETS’s record with the GTR is pretty impressive. The next car that’s close to them is the AMS-built Alpha G driven by Gidi Chamdi, Tony Palo from T1 Race Development is right in the mix for the record, too. All of these cars have gone low sevens at close to 210 mph. This is a fun rivalry for all three — they’ve been chasing the record, and each other, for a while.”
The GTR racers will have more than just setting records on their minds at TX2K17; they have some racers in the 2JZ world that want to grudge race, as well. Veteran 2JZ racers Will Dugas and Vijay Ramkissoon both have open challenges to any of the GTRs at TX2K17 to line up and see who’s king. Event Sponsor Induction Performance will be bringing some very fast 2JZ powered Supras and GTRs that will battle it out with the other cars on the property. “The 2JZ has historically been a legend in the street car community and at the TX2K events. Now, the GTR is looking to challenge the 2JZ-powered machines. The 2JZ racers have an open challenge to the quickest and fastest GTR racers for a heads up race at TX2K17,” Blach says about this rivalry.
The drama will be at an all-time high at TX2K17 as the GTR racers each try to be the first in the six-second zone and take on all-comers from the 2JZ world. You can catch all this great action in person at Royal Purple Raceway March 16-19th. If you can’t be there don’t worry, as SpeedVideo has you covered. This event will be streamed live right here thanks to presenting sponsor Weld Racing, along with additional sponsors Mickey Thompson, FAST, Comp Cams, Driven Racing Oil, QA1, Procharger, Russell Performance Products, and Late Model Engines.
