IHRA Sportsman Spectacular: Event Wrap-up on DRAGZINE. Alan Savage was the big winner at the IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular at the San Antonio Raceway on Saturday, clawing his way back through a pair of first-roundlosses in Quick Rod and Super Rod, using the re-entry round to get back into contention and riding his newfound momentum all the way to a double-up victory and a $10,000 payday. Todd Robinson scored in Top Dragster when opponent Scott Ball rolled the beams in the final, and Ricky Vedros used a great .012 reaction time and a dead-on 7.73 to notch the Top Sportsman title. NHRA Division 1: Bill Reichert and Duane Shields engaged in an epic final round in Top Alcohol Dragster at the Division 1 meet at the Maple Grove Raceway, as the former champ edged the reigning champ 5.452 to 5.457. Perennial favorite Frank Manzo sailed to another divisional win in Top Alcohol Funny Car with a 5.83-second defeat of Paul Gill, and Frank Aragaona beat a red-lighting Sal Biondo in the money round in Competition Eliminator. NHRA Division 6: The Mission Raceway Park in Mission B.C. Canada was the site of the Lordco B.C. Nationals over the weekend that played host to the NHRA Lucas Oil Series. Oregon native Joey Severance drove to the Top Alcohol Dragster crown with a great 5.39 to Ray Martin’s 5.43, and Steve Gasparelli ran a nice 5.63 to take an easy win in Top Alcohol Funny Car as Brian Hough slowed. Rockabilly Rod Reunion: The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway once again was site of the popular Rockabilly Rod Reunion over the weekend, featuring nostalgia racing action, car shows, and more. In the headliner Nostalgia Funny Car category, John Hale used a stout 5.73 to down the 5.84 of Jason Rupert to claim the event title, and Kin Bates claimed the A/Fuel crown with a 6.52 on the red light start of Jerry Kumre Jr. Dean Carter earned the Jr. Fuel win with a 7.06 to 7.19 defeat of Don Enriquez, and Dean Hall took A/Gas with a 7.73 as opponent Brandon Frye fouled.
