NHRA: Race Recap from Charlotte. Robert Hight, who was a late entrant into the Funny Car Countdown, scored his second win in a row on Sunday at the playoff opener at the zMax Dragway in Charlotte, downing No. 1 seed Matt Hagan in the final on a holeshot, 4.08 to a 4.06. In Top Fuel, Morgan Lucas began his title chase on a high note, charging from the No. 1 qualifying spot to down Spencer Massey in the money round. Jeg Coughlin Jr. also took a solid step toward another title, besingt Jason Line on a holeshot, 6.58 to 6.57, and Andrew Hines scored the first win of the season for the Vance & Hines team in Pro Stock Motorcycle as Hector Arana fouled out. NHRA Division 4: Clark Smiley headed up the winners list at the NHRA South Central divisions’ fifth meet of the season at the Royal Purple Raceway, scoring the win in Competition Eliminator in his BB/A Pontiac GXP as final round opponent Justin Rosen went red. Jimmy DeFrank ousted Brett Candies in Super Stock, and Austin Williams defeated a red-lighting Slate Cummings in Stock. For final results from Baytown, log on to NHRADiv4.com.
NHRA Division 3 ET Finals: Adam Cline (Super Pro), Kip Norup (Pro), and Nick Hastings (Sportsman) were among the ET Finals winners who earned a trip to Pomona with their wins at the North Central division event at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. NHRA Division 5 ET Finals: AJ Percival was the big winner at the West Central division ET Finals at Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas, scoring the Super Pro victory and a trip to Pomona in November as he ousted Mike Campbell in the final. Reno Loeffelholz (Pro), Alix Risse (Sportsman), Katelyn Parnell (High School), and John Haney (Motorcycle) were the other winners.
