Mickey Thompson Tires Monday Morning Race Report
NHRA: Race Recap here on DRAGZINE. Seven-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher brought an end to his frustrating, 32-race winless skid at the scenic stop known as Thunder Valley in Bristol on Sunday, and he did it in style, defeating Doug Kalitta on a holeshot in the final round. Meanwhile, Ron Capps, who has been on a tear in Funny Car since tuner Rahn Tobler switched to the NAPA team, made his sixth straight final round appearance and won for the second time this season when he downed first-time finalist Alexis DeJoria. In Pro Stock, local favorite Allen Johnson fell to Mike Edwards in a dead-heat drag race for the ages, a holeshot-aided 6.67 defeating the quicker 6.66, and Rickie Smith, who was injured in a crash at this event just one year ago, settled the score with Thunder Valley this time around, taking a decisive Pro Modified crown when first-time finalist Donald Walsh slowed in the final. Texas native Tera Wendland scored her first NHRR win in Junior Fuel, downing Ken Hawkins in the final round on Sunday afternoon.
