NMCA: Same day coverage from Bowling Green. Jeff Lutz charged from the No. 1 qualifying spot in Pro Street to oust Clint Hairston in the finale as the NMCA Muscle Car Nationals tour rolled into beautiful Beech Bend Raceway Park over the weekend. Lutz was joined by Erin Cheffer, a late arrival on Sunday morning who benefited from breakage by his opponents to earn the Super Street 10.5W crown. Former NMRA champion John Kolivas made a rare appearance in Street Outlaw and downed all-comers for his first victory in the class, and Danny Shemwell earned Nostalgia Pro Street honors in his debut in the category in his new first-gen Camaro.
NHRA: Recap from Seattle. Vincent Nobile won his second race in a row and completed the Mopar sweep of the Western Swing in Pro Stock in Seattle on Sunday, edging out fellow Mopar runner Jeg Coughlin Jr. in the final round for the second time in as many weeks. In Top Fuel, Morgan Lucas scored his first win of the season with a final round round rout of David Grubnic, 3.90 to 4.25, and Funny Car points leader Matt Hagan won his fourth race of the season with a defeat of a tire-smoking Bob Tasca III. Jeff Naiser and Bob Rahaim downed some strong strong contenders to meet in the Pro Nitrous finale, where Naiser laid down a great 3.90 for the victory, while Doug Kirk scored the Extreme Pro Stock title over a slowing Elijah Morton. In Pro Drag Radial, Jason Michalak, filling in for Kyle Huettel in his nitrous-fed Camaro, charged from the No. 5 qualifying spot to earn the win in just the class’ second-ever race.
