This clean 64 Chevelle runs in Outlaw 8.5 and is owned by Casey Van Tol out of Orland, California and one of seven brothers, all of whom own cars and race. The family is in the dairy business and is second generation from Holland. The car is all steel with a full interior with a fiberglass hood and is running in Procharger 235 Limited. The engine is a big Chevy from AES in Chicago topped with Induction Solutions nitrous. The paint and body was done by Eric Baron from Romona Body Shop. The car rides on Mickey Thompson tires, Weld wheels and stopping power from Wilwood. Melanie Salemi was off pace in qualifying with an electronics issue messing up the fuel curve on the engine. Melanie’s husband and tuner John Salemi says he has it figured out this morning and will be looking to run in the 5.80’s today in round two of Precision Turbo Pro Mod eliminations.
One of the cleanest cars on the property this weekend is Tony Ferguson's 56 Chevy 150 sedan running in 235 Limited. The car started as a body only field find taking about four years to get finished up for racing duty with the flawless paint and body done by Tony's cousin back in Wisconsin and the rest of the build done by Tony who had some help installing the roll cage. His 5.67 in qualifying last night is a new best for the car. He runs a509 big Chevy topped with a Cross Hair plate set up by Steve Johnson Induction Solutions in Spring Hill, Florida. We kicked today with a prayer and the Canadian and United States National Anthems here in Vegas.Tommy Johanns and Eric Peterson were the first pair out in Outlaw Pro Mod this morning. Johanns got into tire shake near one hundred feet out and was forced to pedal allowing Peterson to get out front. He put up his best of weekend 6.20 at 238 to earn the win to Johanns’ 6.42 at 230 MPH.
Top qualifier Troy Coughlin ran hard to the stripe scoring a personal best run, a 5.591 at 272.28 MPH. Sidnei Frigo laid down a 5.61 at 261 in his round one match with Daniel McKune scoring a win to McKune’s 6.13 at 225 effort.
Devon Knoph advanced to round three in Magnafuel XDR running a 5.53 at 128 after a long wheelieJames Lawrence put together a 4.44 at 169 taking a round win over Josh Edwards’ 73 Camaro in XDR.Corey Stephens from Wentzville, Montana took the win in Outlaw 8.5 over Erick Aldrich’s 72 Maverick running a 4.83 at 143 to Aldrich’s 4.96 at 149 MPH.Krusty Ramsey was paired with Derek Cooper in round two of Outlaw 8.5 with a nice 4.81.Casey Van Tol and David Holtgrew were paired up in an all Chevy battle in Procharger 235 Limited with Val Tol besting his qualifying ET with a 5.67 at 124 MPH taking the round win over Holtgrew’s 68 Chevy II.Round two of Outlaw Pro Mod saw Mike Maggio paired with Rob Moore’s Frankenpala. Maggio ran a 5.78 at 260 taking the round as Moore struck the tires and shutting it down.Troy Coughlin had a single in round two of Outlaw Pro Mod, running it out to a 5.61 at 270 securing lane choice for the next round.In Precision Turbo Pro Mod round two Sidnei Frigo faced off with Garrett Richards’ Supercharged 2012 Shelby. Richards was away first putting up a 5.94 at 243 but could not hold off the PLR powered TT Vette of Frigo made another good run scoring a 5.74 at 259 and the round win.Ken Sihota and Steve Nicholson were paired up in Outlaw 10.5 in an all Langley, BC match. Sihota would earn the round with a 4.10 at 178 to Nicholson’s 4.23 at 174.
Semi Final Results
Robert Costa runs his 1970 Dodge Dart in Magnafuel Outlaw 10.5 with a Pat Musi 943 Chevy based out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The chassis is an older Jerry Bickel Pro Mod chassis now fitted with 10.5’s. He took the track record for 10.5 at PSCA Denver with a 4.315 taking a runner up finish in the final in his sole outing there this year. The team includes former AFC driver Shawn Jones and Jim and Cletus Riedel. Yearwood Performance is on board with sponsorship along with Quick Drive converter drive, Larue Motorsports and Albuquerque Dragway.Eric McEwan runs his 1973 Camaro in Procharger 235 Limited with a 414 small block Chevy topped with Fast Lane Nitrous built out of his Bow Tie Engine Shop in Greely, Colorado. They have struggled this weekend with the car and are sorting out some transmission issues before the final. Crew includes Keenan, Tyler and special thanks to his father Danny.Hyperformance Motorsports’ Dan Saitz has a new car here this weekend competing in Outlaw 8.5 which he won his class in Drag Week with this year and scored fourth overall with a 7.66 ET and 188 MPH averages and won the Modified Power Adder class. The engine in the car was purpose built with off the shelf parts and TFS heads from Summit Racing so it is easily duplicated and repaired with readily available parts. He will be in the final with George Raygoza.
Final Results
The Flying A Outlaw Pro final came down to Mike Maggio and John Stanley in an all blower, east coast vs west coast match. Stanley went red in his CTS-V Caddy but neither racer noticed till down track with both cars getting into some shake and an ensuing pedal fest and exciting side by side match. Maggio put up a 6.461 at 247 while Stanley ran a 6.39 at 247 MPH for the runner up spot at the twelfth annual Street Car Super Nationals.Precision Turbo Pro Mod would be Mike Bowman vs Sidnei Frigo with Frigo gettign away first but running into trouble getting out of shape before half track. Oak Hills, California based Bowman got in a clean hit running a 5.788 at 259 MPH to score the class win in his twin turbocharged 1969 Chevelle.Magnafuel Outlaw 10.5 featured a Canada vs US final with Ken Sihota paired with Robert Costa out of Albuquerque, New Mexico in his 1970 Duster. Sihota was away first with both drivers late off the tree and just .008 separating their reaction times with Sihota having a .108. Sihota’s 2000 Firebird crossed the stripe first earning the event win with a 4.034 at 185 MPH followed closely by Costa’s game 4.066 at 183.Morrow Brothers Ford Radial vs the World had Roger Holder’s Camaro meet up with Mike Keenan in the Corvette. Holder had lane choice with a 4.10 at 191 on a single from the semis and left first but fell off pace with a wiggle down track slowing to a 4.37 at 188 MPH giving him the best seat to watch Keenan motor on to the win with a 4.110 at 196 MPH, high MPH for the class this weekend.
Jr. Pro Stock had just four cars left after an accident took out two competitors in qualifying. Robbie Blankenship based out of Hudson, Florida made the trip out and scored number one qualifier with his 2004 Mustang. He would face off with Mike Dahl driving a 2005 Cavalier. Dahl did his job on the tree with an .087 reaction to Blankenship's safe .107. It would be the little Ford first to the stripe running the table with a 7.945 at 170 to Dahl's 8.074 at 166.11. Mickey Thompson 275 Radial pit number one and three qualifiers together with Greg Henschell out of Coquitlam, BC matched up with Bristol, Virginia based Jacky McCarty. Henschell got away first with a .023 reaction giving him a significant advantage of a full tenth over Bristol, Virgina based Jacky McCarty. It would be Henschell to the stripe first with a 4.483 at 162.49 to McCarty’s 4.497 at 165.48 with both racers turned up with their best runs of the weekend in the final.Procharger 235 Limited pit number two and three qualifiers together with Dan Dagata having lane choice in the final over Eric McEwan’s 73 Camaro. Just .002 separated them at the tree with McEwen improving on his previous run to a 5.590 at 128.91 takign the win and Dagata slowing a bit to a 5.619 at 126.14 for the runner up finish.Vortech Outlaw 8.5 pit Fenton’ Missouri’s Dan Saitz against Orland, Colorado based George Raygoza, who drives the 68 Nova for Dan Val Tol. Raygoza took the tree first with a .044 reaction time and put up his best run of eliminations 4.828 at 149.70 it just was not enough to stay in front of the hard charging Saitz who ran a 4.741 at 158.09 MPH to earn the win.The Magnafuel XDR final round had Norman Chang and Eric Gustafson with Gustafson having lane choice by virtue of his 4.343 at 167.84 in the semi finals on a single. Chang had the potential as he scored a 4.366 at 167 against James Lawrence who jumped the beam in round three ending his weekend. Chang left first with a .066 light to Gustafson’s .089. Gustafson was on a pass for sure but the car power wheelied and hit hard on the center line as he lifted. The cars nearly collided with Chang earning the win with a 4.89 at 129 and both drivers pulling avoidance maneuvers down track.
Saturday is the third day of racing here in Vegas with a final round of qualifying before moving into round one eliminations tonight to whittle the field of cars in half for Sunday. It warmed up a bit today with the temp hovering around 60 degrees with 11 percent humidity. We got to talk to Kelly Harvey out of Fort Collins, Colorado the driver of the 41 Willy's who spun around on Thursday brushing the wall a bit. There was minor damage to the car with a scrape on the rear fender though it hurt a little extra as the car was just repainted before coming to Vegas. It also bent the wheelie bars, ruined the parachute and flat spotted the rear tires. Harvey usually runs the PSCA 10.5 class in Denver and has won the last four in a row back home. “It was pretty minimal considering what it may have been., I got pretty lucky really.” - Kelly Harvey Mike Silva is top qualifier in Procharger 235 Limited after three sessions with a 5.63 at 126 MPH. The Madera. California based racer runs a small block Chevy 406 cubic inch from Craig Gerfen at Race Engine Systems with an Applied Nitrous plate system. This is the first time for Silva on a radial as he normally runs the NMCA West Ultra Street class where he has won every event for the season and is the 2015 Champion. He has had the car 20 years, since high school when it was driven daily. Tha nks go out to Craig the engine builder, my wife Cheryl for feeding everyone, crew member Julian Martinez , my long time transmission builder Roger Rodriquez at Payless Transmissions and JE Pistons for coming on board this year.Andy Dodge is another NMCA West Ultra Street racer with a 1969 Chevelle he has owned for thirty three years. He is running Mickey Thompson 275 Radial and ran his personal best 5.58 at 125 MPH. He runs a QMP Racing big Chevy topped with a multi-entry plate. He recently swapped to a power glide transmission which has allowed Dodge to run quicker than with the stock geared TH 400. Andy is one of five brothers who all race under the Dodge Racing banner out of Acton, California. Andy shown with his son Anthony on the right.There is a bunch of unique cars out west and this 65 Skylark convertible owned by Gary Giessen from Escondino, CA is a prime example. He is running 275 Drag Radial this weekend though normally doesn’t do class racing but for here at the SCSN. This is yet another racer who has had his car for an exceptionally long time which he purchased in 1989 and is the third owner. It’s powered by a big block Buick from Finishline Motorsports back in Michigan topped with two stages of Induction Solutions foggers though is on one stage. He has been 5.60s best but has struggled here this weekend with a best of 6.40.Canada has a large contingent of racers here this weekend with several running in Magnafuel Outlaw 10.5. Mike Dowling owns this 1970 Chevelle powered by a Procharged 540 cubic inch big Chevy topped with a Killer Rons’ flying toilet alcohol injection. His 4.41 at 170 last night is a personal best landing tenth in class. The short block is from Steve Morris with assembly done by Advanced Engines back home in Montana. Dowling and his wife Sherri crew on the car together.
Steve Nicholson from Langley, BC is qualified fifth in OL 10.5 with his 63 Corvette powered by a Fulton big Chevy. He is a two time champion in the class winning in 2013 and 2015 and will be looking to repeat here this weekend. We have just one more qualifying session today before going into round one eliminations tonight. In Flying A Outlaw Pro Mod the sandbagging John Stanley let it eat some today moving up to top qualifier carding a 5.685 at 257 MPH. Tommy Johanns was able to improve to a 5.97 at 250, moving up two positions to fourth qualifier in the class.Sidnei Frigo held on to top qualifier in Precision Turbo Pro Mod with his earlier 5.71. The field remains largely unchanged after the final qualifying session.Ojai, California’s Scott Loomis landed fifth in Precision Pro Mod with a 5.95 at 253, improving slightly in today’s session and is the last car in class in the five second zone.Greg Seth Hunter put up a 4.05 at 190 MPH last night to improve his ET slightly, he is the number one qualifier in Magnafuel Outlaw 10.5.Magnafuel Outlaw 10.5 wrapped up qualifying with the top five cars remaining in the same order. Sixth qualifier Paja Agatonovic moved way up the field putting a pass together today moving up from thirtieth with a 4.21 at 180 MPH for the Beaverton, Oregon racer.
Mickey Thompson, 275 Radial, Jr. Pro Stock, Morrow Brothers Ford Radial vs the World
Magnafuel Outlaw 10.5, Precision Turbo Pro Mod, Q4 Flying A Outlaw Pro Mod which has a fifth session. John Durden ran well but struggled making clean hits. This was just before getting into tire shake on an aborted round four qualifying attempt. He would land eighth overall in class with a 6.07.Eric Gustafson and James Lawrence traded top qualifier back and forth in Magnafuel XDR with Gustafson sealing the deal in the final session. Lawrence improved his lot to a 4.364 at 170 early in the session but an oil down allowed time for PTP’s Jason Lee to fire up the lap top in the water box and make a change. It payed off as Gustafson managed a 4.354 at 168 bumping Lawrence back to second again.Roger Rydell based out of Lancaster, Califirnia put his blown 2002 Camaro in third spot with a 4.45 at 168 MPH.
Round Five Qualifying Results
John Stanley improved hit time in the final session of Outlaw Pro Mod to a 5.66 at 257 improving a bit to a 5.66. Not to sit back team Jegs put some more power in the car sending Coughlin to number one with a 5.62 at 270 to take over top qualifier. Mike Maggio improved substantially from a 5.86 to a 5.77 at 260. he would stay third with that run.Mike Keenan picked up to a 4.13 at 194 to take over number one spot in Morrow Brothers Ford Radial vs the World jumping in front of Roger Holder.Mike Silva held on to top qualifier in Procharger 235 Limited running a 4.606 at 127.Eric McEwan moved up from fourth to second this round, improving from a 5.69 to a 5.64 at 128 in his Greeley, Colorado based 73 Camaro.This gorgeous 56 Chevy 150 belongs to Tony Ferguson out of Casper, Wyoming. he sits fourth in 235 Limited, improving in the final session to a 5.67 at 125 MPH using a 509 big block Chevy topped with an Induction Solutions nitrous system.
Round One Elimination Results
Melanie Salemi faced off with Michael Biehle II in round one of Precision Pro Mod, one of five classes to run first round today. She put up a 6.03 on a foul start by Biehle taking the go ahead win, her best run of the weekend.Daniel McKune put up a 6.32 at 221 to dispatch with Mark Luton who fell off pace to a 7.60 in a match with the twelve and thirteenth qualifiers.Sidnei Frigo scored his best run so far this weekend, running a 5.69 at 261 over Richard Morris.Rick Snavely was the last car down in class on an opponent broke single as Ruben T did not make the car. He was just off his qualifying pace with a 5.848 at 254.76.El Paso, Texas based Lyle Byrum bested his qualifying numbers with a 4.31 at 167 in his win over Art Raz in Outlaw 10.5 round one action.Mike Labbale had a close match with Lloyd Bosh’s 57 Bel Air with both drivers .090 on the tree. Labbale just edged out Bosch with a 4.55 to a 4.58.Ryan “Toaster” Jones advanced over Robert DeMan with a 4.66 at 159 in Mickey Thompson 275 Radial.Doug Driggers kept the front end down in his round one match with Thomas Marshall scoring a 4.99 at 147, which I believe is his first pass in the fours with the single turbo ’46 Dodge Pickup.Thea Zancanella has been riding the bars all weekend in her 2003 Mustang running in Magnafuel XDR. She scored a round win with a 4.61 over Kevin Foy.Brian Snider from Fort Lupton, Clorado landed twenty-first in XDR and had a single in round one. though he slowed to a 7.17 on the run.Josh Edwards ran a 4.58 at 164 improving on his qualifying 4.66 as the last car down in class on one of six single runs in class due to a lot of breakage.Haley James (near lane) earned her way to round two in Vortech Outlaw 8.5 in a match with Dan Hale after getting beat on the tree by .030 in a close race. Her 4.94 to his 5.04.
Krusty Ramsey will move to round two in his 78 malibu as well in Outlaw 8.5 running a 4.78 at 148 over Freddy Bueno who left hard but lost traction early in the run.

We are getting started this morning with bracket qualifying and have some great weather this weekend with some warmer temps today.Roger Holder brought his new Chevy II out this weekend for some testing and is entered in Radial vs the World with his twin turbo Camaro. He has had the Nova about three years and it’s fitted with the nitrous engine from the Camaro. Plans include some True Ten Five and grudge racing with the car.Mod Squad Racing out of Canada runs this little Chevy powered 74 Corolla. We spoke with David Knoph about the car which is driven by his son Devon. The team runs 275 Radial in Canada and is running Magnafuel XDR this weekend. They have a new engine just put in the car last week, moving from a 354 cubic inch NASCAR style build to a 434 topped with a Brodix aluminum block heads and three nitrous stages. The cold track temps last night left a lot of cars struggling with the surface and Knoph was no exception, qualifying with a 6.21 at 95 MPH after getting out of shape early.Kevin Guthrie based out of Colorado and running 10.5 this weekend. The car is powered by a Procharged LS engine from S and R Racing Engines making about 3,200 horsepower and backed by a JEFFco clutch-less transmission. He ran a 4.72 at 158 MPH in yesterdays qualifying.
San Diego based Jesse Callier runs this 67 El Camino in Mickey Thompson 275 Drag Radial with a single turbo LS from Faustet Racing Engines. The flawless paint and body was done by Nick Batalia at Loose Cannon Customs. He sits in eleventh spot in class with a 5.46 at 130 MPH. In Outlaw 10.5 qualifying last night this 41 Willy’s had a wild ride on the top end, spinning around and just brushing the wall in a display of great driving and a bit of luck the only damage was a scrape on the rear fender.Precision Turbo Pro Mod had many racers struggle with the surface including Troy Coughlin in the Jeg’s 2015 Corvette who was half the first pair out in class last night with the track temp in the mid 50’s. The track did tighten up later in the session.Rob Moore runs this 1960 Frankinpalla in Pro Mod with Minor Brothers horsepower based out of El Cajon, California. He sits third in class with a 6.15 at 240.John Stanley was the sole car in the 5’s napping a 5.96 at 195 MPH clicking it early on the pass.Dragzine’s own James Lawrence earned top qualifier in Magnafuel XDR last night with a 4.53 at 154 MPH. Bill Trovato is assisting the crew with tuning the car this weekend.
Round Two Qualifying
Flying A Outlaw Pro Mod had nine cars for round two qualifying today with Troy Coughlin (far lane) leading the field with a 5.746 at 269 MPH. Andrew Berry landed third with his 68 Camaro running a 5.98 at just 206 off the throttle. Mike Maggio was the only other car to get down, he ran a 5.86 for second qualifier.The Precision Turbo Pro Mod top qualifier so far is Sidnei Frigo’s 2016 Corvette with a 5.77 at 255 MPH.Rick Snavely put the Turbos Direct 69 Camaro in third position running a 5.89 at 256 against Mike Bowman. He landed seventh with a 6.08.Doug Reh brought his stunning turbocharged 1957 Buick from Pratt, Kansas for some Pro Mod action. He struggled on this run but managed a 7.76 at 146 for fifteenth qualifier.Shane Molinari earned second qualifier for his efforts with a 5.89 at 249 MPH in his Battle Ground, Washington based 68 Firebird.Greg Seth Hunter put the MMR OL 10.5 Mustang on the pole with a clean 4.08 at 187 MPH.Robert Costa put his Musi powered 70 Duster in second spot with a 4.091 at 182.Paja Agatonovic left hard then shook the tires before the car got on the bars near the 330 riding it out before shutting it down to a 5.39 at 180 MPH.Perry Tonin hails from Drafton Valley, Alberta with this 2002 Camaro using a Reher Morrison nitrous engine for power. He managed a 4.88 at 162 this round.Lyle Byrum from El Paso is doing well his first time on 10.5’s scoring a 4.40 at 168. He shut this one early as fuel was leaking out of the pitting near the injector hat.Roger Holder landed second in Morrow Brothers Radial vs the World with a 5.05 at 108 behind David Bevers’ 66 El Camino with no cars getting good A to B runs this session of RVW.Mike Keenan out of Albuqerque, NM kicked the tires in his Corvette and will be looking for a better run later tonight.
Mickey Thompson 275 Radial has a wide mix of cars, and trucks in the class including these two old school rides. Arlington, Virginia based Ray Mohoff (left) brought his 30 Ford PU out west to have some fun here in Vegas. The fully restored 46 Dodge of Doug Driggers is based out of Chandler, Arizona and features a turbocharged combo. He sits mid pack in class with a 5.04 at 142 MPH. Armen Maghdessian is always a crowd pleaser with his wheel standing 57 Chevy. Today was no exception as he rode this one out to a 4.96 at 149 landing thirteenth in the field.Sam Awaijane had a wild ride early on this run getting way out of shape. He recovered to a 5.66 at 124 landing twenty first.Low ET so far goes to Greg Henschell leads the field with a 4.550 at 163 followed by Ryan Jones and Mark Meiering (shown) who put up a 4.77 at just 150 MPH to land third in his 2007 Shelby. Look for more from Meiering this weekend.Mike Silva leads the Procharger 235 Limited class with his Chevy II with a 5.65 at 125 MPH. These little tires are tricky to hook so these cars have high mile per hour through the traps for their ET.This gorgeous 56 Chevy belongs to Tony Ferguson out of Casper, Wyoming. He sits third in class so far with a 5.770 at 124.

Vortech Outlaw 8.5, Magnafuel XDR, Procharger 235 Limited The third qualifying session of Flying A Outlaw Pro Mod saw John Stanley improve to a 5.92 at 222 MPH and moving up to third qualifier. Tommy Johanns and Rob Moore also improved with Johanns taking over sixth spot bumping Moore to seventh. Coughlin did not improve his performance and is still at number one. Tommy Johanns shown near lane.Melanie Salemi moved up three spots to tenth in Precision Turbo Pro Mod with a 6.08 at 235 in the Resolution Racing supercharged Firebird.Michael Biehle II moved up to fourteenth with a 6.30 at 247. Still not a solid run but in the right direction for the North Vernon, Indiana based team.Roy Moznik moved up to third in Magna Fuel Outlaw 10.5 with a 4.10 at 177 in his Langley, BC based 68 El Camino.Frank Acosta moved just three places on his quicker run from this session going from a 5.17 to a 4.74 and sits twentieth in the class.Greg Seth Hunter improved to a 4.04 this round.Roger Holder got loose down track in Morrow Brothers Radial vs the World. He went through with a 4.65 at 115 landing number one on the pass and did a great job driving the car getting recovered. He also had some luck on that deal.Mike Keenan got down this session with a 4.83 at 139. Not a full pass but enough for second spot in class.Jr Pro Stock top qualifier hails all the way from the Sunshine state. His 7.83 at 173 is several tenths ahead of the rest of the field.Mike Dahl ran two 8.13’s today and sits second in Jr Pro Stock. His brother Matt is third.Greg Henschell is still number one in Mickey Thompson 275 Radial with his earlier 4.55 at 163 MPH.NMCA racer Chris Groves is one of several from the series here this weekend. He sits second in 275 Radial with a 4.57, moving up from tenth spot.Las Vegas’ own Frank Yee sits fourteenth in 275 Radial with a 4.89 at 149 in his 2003 Cobra.
