ATI Performance showed off numerous new products for the TH400 transmission that will help drag racers support even more horsepower, but perhaps one of the most welcomed is a blister pack of small parts that are usually hard to find in new condition.
“You used to be able to get these parts only from old cores,” explains ATI’s David Caine. “And then they were 40 years old.”
The collection includes hardware, shift shafts, park actuator rod, parking praw, piston return springs, shift lever, manual valve lever and more. Another kit that should draw interest is the titanium bolt kit for those looking to save all the weight possible.
For those needing to improve the durability and performance of their TH400 trannys, ATI also showed off a new T-400 Super Pump. The three-piece all-alloy design features a bolt-in, one-piece, heat-treated steel stator for improved fluid routing over OEM or aftermarket tubes. Other features include micro-finished coated gears and hardened steel wear plates. It weighs just 12 pounds, which is five pounds less than stock. It’s available for factory and large-sized input shafts. The gear side will mate with all current steel stator halves.
Another unique upgrade is the Wicked Quick aluminum valve body. ATI says it can pick up .02 to .05 seconds on the tree over conventional steel brakes while coming in at seven pounds lighter than an OEM valve body. The valve body is CNC machined and can be set for four different patterns.
“You can run multi-purpose setups with this valve body,” says Caine. “For regular racing you have a standard 1-2-3 gear pattern. Then if you turn on the nitrous for a different class, you can leave in second gear and run the 2-3 gears.”
The ATI booth showcased numerous other TH400 parts as well as Powerglide and TH350 upgrades. Of course, ATI’s popular dampers were on display.
