Bringing home a Horsepower Wars $10K Drag Shootout victory takes plenty of hard work, and the team at Big 3 Racing knows exactly what’s required.
Big 3 Racing will host the Horsepower Wars $10K Drag Shootout Season 4 Presented by Summit Racing, but that doesn’t mean the hometown team will have any advantage. Team Food Stamp Fast, Team Next, and Team Bucket List Mob are all ready to throw down and do whatever it takes to win this year’s competition.
Team leader Chuck Stefanski, along with Bob Hess, Rick Trunkett, and Kenny Feathers, may have the best chemistry of any team competing in this season’s $10K Drag Shootout. Rather than building a traditional muscle car, Big 3 Racing is taking the truck route with a rare 1992 GMC Sonoma GT. The S10-based truck will sport Caltracs and leaf springs in the rear with a Moser 9-inch, TRZ front control arms, and Viking shocks all the way around.
Hess will handle the driving duties while also assembling the truck’s nitrous-fed engine. Trunkett will lead the fabrication work and make sure everything gets built correctly. Feathers serves as the team’s jack-of-all-trades mechanic, while Stefanski keeps the project on schedule and jumps in wherever help is needed to get the Sonoma across the finish line.
Like every team in the Horsepower Wars $10K Drag Shootout, Big 3 Racing will have to overcome strict time and budget limitations. They’ll receive a $7,000 Summit Racing gift card and can spend only $3,000 of their own money to complete the build. On top of that, they’ll have just six days to transform the GMC into a competitive drag racing machine.
Big 3 Racing will also be limited to a single power-adder and small tires. Every team in this year’s competition will use a NOS plate nitrous system and a 28×10.5-inch slick from Hoosier.
The challenges don’t stop there.
None of the teams will choose their engine platform or induction system. A random drawing will determine whether each team receives a Holley EFI system or an Edelbrock carburetor. They’ll also be assigned one of four Summit SPC engine blocks, which include a small-block Chevy, big-block Chevy, small-block Ford, or LS.
So, these teams are really going to have their knowledge and abilities stretched when the competition begins.
Horsepower Wars would like to thank its sponsors of the $10K Drag Shootout 4, including Summit Racing, Old World Industries/PEAK, SPAL, VP Racing, Edelbrock, COMP Cams, ARP, Cometic Gasket, ATI Performance Products, JE Pistons, Total Seal, Holley, Moroso, Racequip, Hoosier Racing Tire, and NOS.
