Needless to say, last weekend’s Ultimate Outlaw Shootout Series season finale, held at the always lightning-quick Maryland International Raceway, was one of the best drag racing events conducted all season long in any sanction or series. With the mercury only reaching 60 degrees at mid-day helping to create horsepower-producing atmospheric conditions, combined with Jason Miller’s renowned track-prep work, all the pieces were in place for a record-breaking affair amongst a contingent of racers as strong as you’ll find anywhere.
The result was a day of piggybacking national records and a slew of personal best performances, along with some stellar drag racing in every category right down to the last pass of the evening. Among them was Richard Sexton’s 4.140 Outlaw 10.5 record and teammate Chuck Ulsch’s near-record 4.14 of his own, Justin Smith’s 4.85 blast in X275, Steve Jackson’s record 4.32 in Outlaw Drag Radial, and a host of other impressive laps.
And thanks to the power of digital video technology and YouTube, we can all relive the action from Budds Creek, with more than 30 minutes of footage from Maryland captured and shared for all to see. Simply put, you won’t see any better heads-up racing than this. Enjoy!
