Mike Manners, who is a regular competitor in the Pro Fuel Dragster division on the IHRA Nitro Jam tour along with NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster ranks behind the wheel of his Shredder A/Fuel Dragster, was uninjured following a scary high-speed crash while testing at the Royal Purple Raceway in Houston over the weekend.

According to Manners, the right rear tire on his dragster came apart some 60 feet before reaching the finish line, where he went through the traps at 270 miles per hour. The ensuing collision sent his Spitzer Race Cars-built mount into the retaining wall, snapping the front half of the chassis, as can be seen in the photos. A fire aided by the nitromethane pouring from the bursted fuel cell ensued and was quickly extinguished by the RPR safety crew.

Most importantly, the Mike Spitzer chassis and the safety equipment did its job and Manners walked way without so much as a bruise.

Manners finished just four point shy of the Pro Fuel title last year and currently sits second in the Nitro Jam standings. On the NHRA side of the coin, he sits 7th in the Division 4 Lucas Oil Series and 12th nationally.
