An LS-Swapped MK5 Supra With 7-Second Goals

Engine swaps aren’t anything new, but it’s always cool to be the first person to swap a particular platform. There are plenty of nasty Toyota MK5 Supras out there, but “Boosted Billy” wanted to stuff an LS-based engine into one to create a totally bananas build. Billy teamed up with Texas Speed & Performance (TSP) to make his LS-swapped MK5 Supra a reality.

Billy isn’t a stranger to outrageous LS-swapped builds. “The Panda” is a BMW 335i that Billy stuffed a 408 cubic-inch LS into, along with a pair of turbos and T56 transmission. That car made over 1,000 horsepower, and turned heads anywhere it went. So, it’s only natural that Billy’s Supra would have to be an absolute monster as well.

The MK5 Supra caused a lot of controversy when it was released due to its body lines, but Billy was a fan of the car. Billy’s goal was to LS-swap an MK5 Supra within the first year of ownership if he did get one, and that mission has been accomplished. The icing on the cake is the stout 427 cubic-inch LS engine that now lives under the hood.

TSP stuffed this 427 with all kinds of forged goodies and topped it off with a set of PRC 285 cylinder heads. LSE9X motor mount brackets work with a set of Revshift F80 mounts to get the LS to fit between the Supra’s front fenders. Guru Autowerks fabricated a custom LS-to-8HP transmission adaptor so Billy could bolt up a fully built 8HP transmission from Applied Torque Solutions. Behind the transmission, you’ll find a custom-fabricated Ford 9-inch rearend with GForce Performance Engineering axles. Walker ProMotorsport built the Supra’s custom turbo kit. Everything is controlled by a MaxxECU that’s tuned by Mead Motorsports Tuning.

The car looks OEM and still maintains a lot of the OEM geometry for the driveline. Billy wanted the car to be as swap-friendly as possible, and use parts that were readily available. The Supra’s OEM dash still works along with many other functions. It was a challenge to address the wiring since there are no wiring diagrams available for this car. Billy had to use a wiring diagram from a BMW to get the information he needed to complete the swap.

Right now, Billy and his team are working on sorting the Supra out before they really start turning up the horsepower. With a bigger turbo, Billy hopes the Supra will dip into the seven-second zone and make between 1,500-1,600 horsepower.
