Former NMCA Pro Street champion Chris Rini is well on his way to a second title in the category this season after recording back-to-back wins to open the 2012 season aboard his ATI Performance Products ’69 Camaro.
Rini, who came up just short of Joe Dunne for the Pro Street championship last fall, began the new year in Bradenton with a decisive victory and followed it up last weekend with another trip to victory lane during the NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals held at the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.
Rini put a great 6.03-second, 235 mile per hour lap on the boards in the opening round of qualifying on Friday afternoon in the heat of the day. The ATI team recorded another six-oh – a 6.06 – and an off-the-gas 6.23 to carry some momentum into eliminations.
Leading the field into eliminations with the opening-shot 6.03, Rini downed Joshua Green in the opening round with a stellar 6.10 at 232.23 and took an easy competition bye in round two before squaring off with a strong-running Clint Hairston – who had run 6.08 and 6.06 earlier in he day – in the final round. There, Rini used another consistent 6.06 lap to capture his second straight win as Hairston struggled following a trip into the to-end sand trap a round prior.

Rini whose Camaro used ATI’s Superglide 4 Lock-Up Transmission and Outlaw Lock-Up converter, heads into the next event at the Maryland International Raceway with the points lead in the Pro Street category, but with five events remaining, there’s still plenty of racing to be done.
The ATI Performance Products Camaro also uses ATI’s Super F ATF fluids, a SuperPlate flexplate, and ATI Super Damper to propel it to the five and six-second performances that have become the norm in Pro Street.
