No Prep racing is bringing a much needed edge back to drag racing, with its raw feel and the colorful personalities that compete in each event. Racers in the No Prep world aren’t afraid to speak their mind and settle things on the track old-school style at the drop of a hat.

James “Birdman” Finney” and Kayla Morton are two of the racers in the Dirty South No Prep Series who embody the settle-it-on-the-track attitude and are on a collision course to win the series title during the finals November 11-12th!

“The biggest thing right now in the Dirty South Series, and No Prep racing in general, is Birdman. He continues to dominate everywhere he goes. Nobody seems to have anything for them, but there are a couple of cars that are starting to creep up on him and I’m not sure he knows it yet,” explains Dirty South Series promoter Mike Murillo.

One of Birdman’s newest rivals could be his toughest yet: Kayla Morton and her 1993 Mustang. Morton is no stranger to racing, as she has been laying down passes for more than a decade and has even tangled with the boys from OKC on Street Outlaws.

“Kayla’s new to the no prep stuff … she just started doing this with her Outlaw 10.5 car. Every time Kayla goes out it seems she’s getting better at it, and plans on making all of the races in the series. She has raced Birdman a couple times now and it’s been close each run. This has turned into of those deals where Kala wants to take him down really bad — almost as bad as she wants to win this championship,” Murillo says.

This budding rivalry is no joke according to Murillo and looks to be growing each time these two are on the ladder against each other.

“We had storms at the first Dirty South Series event and had to shut the timing system down, but Kayla still wanted to run Birdman. She came to the tower and demanded to run him even if it had to be done off a flashlight.

I went over to Birdman and told him that she wanted to run off a flashlight, he thought for a second and said ‘let’s do this’. BoostedGT brought them in the beams on the line, I banged the flashlight and it just made the race that much cooler. Birdman only got Kayla by half a car and the place just went nuts!”

It will be very interesting to see how future match-ups between Morton and Birdman play out in the Dirty South No Prep series. Both of these competitors want to win the title and are going to fight it out until the bitter end until only one is left standing!
