Certain combinations create a magical experience, and one of the best in drag racing is nitromethane, Funny Cars, and Summit Motorsports Park. The Chaos Super Nationals brought all three together for a massive weekend of racing action, delivering an incredible show despite Mother Nature’s best efforts to spoil the fun.

The Chaos Super Nationals combined the Funny Car Chaos and Nitro Chaos series into one massive event at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. Together, these two series celebrate some of the coolest eras in drag racing history. Fans were treated to iconic Funny Car body styles from drag racing’s golden age, dry hops, header flames, and all the sensory overload that makes nitro racing special. It’s about as close to time travel as you can get at a drag strip.

Summit Motorsports Park rolled out the extra-thick red carpet for the Chaos Super Nationals, but the weather quickly complicated the schedule. A difficult forecast forced Friday’s qualifying session to be moved earlier in the day, eliminating the fireworks show originally planned by Bill Bader Jr.

That decision proved to be the right call. Shortly after qualifying ended, heavy rain moved into the area. Saturday’s racing activities were completely canceled due to wet weather, setting the stage for eliminations to take place on Sunday.

Each Chaos series divided competitors into A-Field, B-Field, and C-Field eliminators. This format tightens the competition and gives racers at multiple performance levels a legitimate opportunity to compete for a win.

Funny Car Chaos Results

Keith Zimmerer secured the top qualifying position in Funny Car Chaos with a strong 3.647-second pass at 208.97 mph.

In A-Field competition, Alan Bradshaw drove the legendary “Dakota Pony II” Funny Car to victory. Dave Duche and the “Burnin Benjamins” Funny Car captured the B-Field win, while Joe Pirrione piloted the “Screamin Eagle” flopper to victory in the C-Field.

Nitro Chaos Results

On the Nitro Chaos side, John Umlauf Jr. grabbed the number one qualifying spot with a 3.587-second run, narrowly edging Dave Hill’s impressive 3.639.

As eliminations unfolded, Hill battled his way through the field behind the wheel of the “Mad Max” Funny Car and ultimately captured the Nitro Chaos A-Field victory.

In B-Field competition, Chuck Loftin overcame the mechanical problems his team experienced during qualifying and drove the “Crap Shoot” Fuel Altered into the winner’s circle.

Despite the weather challenges, the Chaos Super Nationals once again proved why Funny Car Chaos and Nitro Chaos events continue to grow in popularity. Between the vintage-style nitro machines, massive crowds, and nonstop action, Summit Motorsports Park delivered another unforgettable weekend of drag racing.
