It appears that there is a new track in the planning and even in the early building stages – while most of us here in the United States could only wish for some new tracks to open. Secondly, to have one that is going to be as extravagant as the one being built in Saudi Arabia. The Arab nations have shown a flourish of interest for drag racing with a touch of American style. Al-Anabi may be leading this movement but there is a new group of investors working feverishly to put together the Dirab Motorsports Park.
Check out all the action from across the world on BahrainRacing.com.
A world class drag strip is being built on the grounds of Dirab Motorsports Park that would be fit for just about any sanctioning body. The quarter mile surface is a mixture of concrete and asphalt which is going to be ground and surfaced by Penhall and Freeburn. Penhall and Freeburn also prepare the NHRA racing surfaces here in the United States. State of the art scoreboards will be powered by Compulink along with the rest of the timing system. Safety was also of the utmost importance with concrete barriers being placed down the quarter mile surface and continuing into the entire shut down area.
This place is surely one of those places that is made for the race fans along with the racers. Aside from the quarter mile drag strip there will be two other racing facilities combined within the inside of the facility. First a go-kart track is on site with a onslaught of options. From a pro shop to on site driving schools they have a little bit of something for every experience level. Starting at age 8 you can show up and jump in one of DMP’s karts and hit the track for a day of fun. Positioned adjacent from the drag strip is the 3.2km racing circuit which features a seamless table top finish and is lined with S.A.V.E.S soft barriers along the course. The sky is the limit when it comes to the accommodations at the facility and I can’t wait to see this place completely finished and operational. September is the goal and we will keep a close eye to see exactly when the gates open for the first time.
