There’s a certain balance that needs to be struck when building a 1993–2002 F-body for the track. You want to increase the amount of space you have to work with up front while also shedding weight. Team Z Motorsports developed its tubular front end kits to make both happen.
Anyone who’s worked on a fourth-generation F-body knows that, due to the car’s design, there isn’t much room under the hood. The engine sits under the cowl, and the factory support structure for the front fenders takes up a lot of space while adding unnecessary weight. This makes the car difficult to work on and complicates the installation of components like turbo kits.
So what’s the solution? It’s simple: grab your favorite cutting tool, remove the unnecessary factory material, and replace it with a lightweight tubular front structure that offers more space and improved access.
Dave Zimmerman from Team Z explains how the company approached the design of this new tubular front end system.
“I’ve been building cars for 30 years, and I wanted to create a part that was as functional as possible. We took what we learned with our Fox Body tubular front ends and applied it to these new parts with a fresh outlook. You can weld this to the strut tower, which adds strength. The design also makes it easier to add a motor plate and mid-plate to the car.”
Team Z currently offers its tubular front ends in both fully welded and kit versions. Both are constructed from 4130 chromoly and remove approximately 25 pounds from the front of the car. The welded and unwelded versions each include all the necessary mounting hardware to complete the installation.
