Following months of rumors and speculation that gave way to nearly a full season of anticipation by the fans and the media, the day that Alexis DeJoria has been dreaming about and building toward her entire career is little more than two rotations of the clock away.
DeJoria, the heiress to the Paul Mitchell Hair System and Tequila Patron empire cultivated by father John Paul
DeJoria, is set to make her long-awaited debut behind the wheel of a Nitro Funny Car at this weekend’s AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. The former Super Gas, Super Comp, and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver will pilot a Tequila Patron-backed Toyota Solara as part of the legendary Kalitta Motorsports team, with noted tuner and current Kalitta Motorsports Vice President Jim Oberhofer calling the shots for the remainder of the season.
Oberhofer was trackside for virtually every one of DeJoria’s forty-two test runs in a Nitro Funny Car completed over the course of the last year and insists he’s highly impressed with DeJoria’s progress and capabilities as a driver.
“I’ve been watching Alexis drive Nitro for a year and I’ve been blown away at how incredibly skilled she is. It was after the Fall Nationals this time last year that we had her out on the track in a Nitro car for the first time, and believe it or not, I wanted her to compete right away! I knew she was ready even back then. Now you add a full year of practice and fine-tuning to that, and she’s truly a force to be reckoned with.”
DeJoria will officially christen the new Tequila Patron flopper on Friday evening and realize years of preparation toward her ultimate goal of competing t the sport’s highest level as Funny Car qualifying gets underway on Friday afternoon in Ennis.
“Driving a Nitro car for Connie Kalitta is a huge opportunity- one that I’ve dreamed of since I was sixteen years old.” says DeJoria, adding, “We are as prepared as we possibly can be, and our test sessions have been very successful. I’m really looking forward to making my debut in Dallas and representing Tequila Patron!”
