Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, you’re well-informed that Outlaw Drag Radial elapsed times have continued to drop like a rock, starting with Keith Berry’s outstanding 4.19 blast at over 185 MPH last season at Holly Springs‘ Fall Brawl event. That was the first hit by anyone into the 4-teen range, and now we’ve got a number of different racers knocking on the 4.0 zone – Rob Valden, THE Kevin Mullins, DeWayne Mills, Berry, and others.
After this past weekend’s Shootout at the Springs event at Holly Springs, that number is oh-so-close to the 0’s, with DeWayne Mills clocking in the best time of the weekend on Saturday with a 4.105 at an insane 196.25 MPH. Yes, folks – that’s nearly 200 MPH on a radial tire in the eighth-mile.Â

Mills relies on twin-turbocharged Proline Race Engines power and a ProTorque torque converter to run the elapsed times and has been improving at every single race, just like the rest of the competition. On the record run, he clocked a 1.117 short time and 2.83 (!) to the 330-foot mark – that’s just unbelievable.Â
Check out the ETs from the qualifying sessions over there on the right – Steven Crisafulli and Mark Woodruff also became members of the Teen Club this weekend, while Berry and Valden also improved their personal bests.
Unfortunately the event was rained out before it could be completed and any more records could be set on the legendary Unicorn-equipped Holly Springs surface, but you better believe all of these racers went home with one thing on their minds – how to squeeze even more elapsed time out of their combinations.
It’s only a matter of time until we see someone into the 4.0s, and with so many racers on the cusp of doing it we can’t even pick a favorite – it’s anyone’s game right now.Â
