Don Garlits And Glenn Menard Named 2026 Texas Motorplex Legends

In 1986, Billy Meyer changed what people thought a dragstrip could be when he built the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. The track is known for producing some of the biggest moments in professional drag racing and putting on one heck of a show, so being a part of the Texas Motorplex Legends is a big deal.

This year at the 2026 NHRA Texas Fall Nationals, NHRA Hall of Fame racer Don Garlits and the first general manager of the Texas Motorplex, Glenn Menard, will be inducted into the pantheon of Texas Motorplex Legends.

You can’t talk about NHRA drag racing pioneers and heroes without mentioning Garlits. Garlits has a special history at the Texas Motorplex because he won the Top Fuel title at the first event held at the track in 1986.

Menard’s leadership when the Texas Motorplex first opened is what helped build the foundation for the facility’s long-term success. His ability to manage top-tier facilities and massive events ensured the Texas Motorplex would become one of the best racetracks in the world.

“When the Motorplex opened and hosted its first national event, Don and Glenn were a major part of our success,” said Christie Meyer Johnson, Texas Motorplex co-owner. “Don is drag racing and he is one of the biggest legends in the sport. He won the first Texas Fall Nationals and has been a long-time competitor and supporter of the track. The impact Glenn had on the development of the track is almost impossible to measure. His leadership and dedication in the early years set the track on a path to success.”

Both Garlits and Menard will receive their legend spurs to commemorate their induction into the Texas Motorplex Legends during the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals, October 16-18. You can learn more about this event right here.
