One of the biggest draws to drag racing is the pure sensory overload that is experienced on each excursion to the track. The mind numbing visual of seeing a radial tire car go on the bumper, the smell of racing fuel in the air, and the chest thumping sound of a nitro car all make the drag strip a great sensory experience. Now imagine for a second a nearly silent electric car that can crack off a 10-second pass, that isn’t even designed for drag racing, and you have the road racing machine from ELMOFO in Australia.

Electric cars at the drag strip are nothing new, and they’re becoming all the more common as electric vehicle technology gains more traction in the automotive world. Over the past 20 years with the giant leaps in technology the cars have gotten much faster and more efficient.

If the ELMOFO team put their mind to it, they could very easily give electric frontrunners like “Big Daddy” Don Garlits a run for their money when it comes to being the king of the electric cars at the drag strip. The ELMOFO SREV that hit the drag strip is actually a successful “prototype” road racing car that races in the NSW Supersports State Championship series. The car is equipped with a pair of AMR IPM electric motors, lithium polymer battery cells, and is controlled by a Ricart Motion System. On this particular day at the track the SREV was still rocking its road racing gears and a set of worn down rain tires and still managed to run a 10.92 at 131 mph.
