The quickest 1/8-mile turbocharged doorslammer in all the world will have a fresh new can’t-miss-it paint scheme when the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) season kicks off in just over a week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Car owner and driver Jose Gonzalez of El General/Q80 Racing has cloake his C7 Chevrolet Corvette in a striking new orange scheme with black and purple accents that will certainly make it easily identifiable in a crowd of Pro Extreme cars.
With Pro Line Racing twin turbo power onboard and Steve Petty and Eric Dillard helping turn the knobs, Gonzalez cranked off the quickest run ever by a turbocharged car in the Pro Extreme category last fall at the PDRA World Finals at the Virginia Motorsports Park, with a 3.527 at 225.97 mph (not speed record for the class). The ‘Vette had gone had gone 3.56 on an earlier pass and was believed to have had a 3.50-flat in it. The season opener at Tulsa will mark the first competitive runs since the Finals, and will mark the next opportunity for the Pro Line and El General/Q80 gang to chase the 3.4-second zone.
