There seems to be – at least in our experience- a golden rule of thumb when it comes to browsing vintage drag racing footage on the interwebs that if you find something pretty cool, come back tomorrow and you’ll find something that tops it. Such is the case this week. During our Flashback Friday feature last week, we shared with you some pretty nifty footage from the 60’s, primarily filmed at “The Nationals” in Indianapolis. Well this week, we’d like to think we one-upped that little find. As a matter of fact, this one may be hard to top.
This ten-plus minute clip borrowed from the Muscle Car Films title “Draggin’ Into The 70’s” features – as the name implies – some incredible footage captured during the 1970’s at NHRA and IHRA meets across the country.
And truth be told, it’d be easier to just rattle off the small list of legendary racer and race car names that AREN’T included at least once in this clip. Everyone gets a little camera time. We’re talking Sox & Martin, Wally Booth, the Ramchargers, Roland Leong, Al Hanna, the L.A. Dart wheelstander, Gene Snow, the Chi-Town Hustler, Wayne Gapp, and Raymond Beadle’s Blue Max. And all of the action takes place at such fabled facilities as Pomona, Rockingham, and even some interesting 1/8 mile racing on the pit road of NASCAR’s Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Rather than attempt to describe all of the historic footage packed into this little clip, we’ll just all the video itself to do the talking. So grab yourself a bag of popcorn ( a small one, it’s only 10 minutes) and enjoy!
