Get Screened America, the title sponsor of the popular NHRA Pro Modified program, announced just prior to the holiday weekend that it will cease funding of the ESPN2 television broadcast of the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series beginning in 2012. Roger Burgess, the man behind Get Screened America, confirmed his commitment as title sponsor of the class through the 2014 season, fulfilling the terms of a deal struck in 2010.
The Pro Modified category was elevated from exhibition status last season with the financial support of ProCare Rx and Get Screened America, as was the national television coverage on ESPN2 and ESPN2HD, which is completely funded by Burgess. The announcement leaves the NHRA searching for a new series sponsor to assume the role following the 2014 season, and if one is not found prior to December of 2012, the Pro Modified class will be discontinued at the conclusion of the 2o14 race season.
“We are glad that we were able to create the series; however, for it to continue, another entity will need to get involved,” Burgess told NHRA.com. “The series can offer a lot to a new sponsor, and I will work hand in hand with NHRA to search for a new one.”
“We can’t thank Roger and his team enough for everything they have done, and NHRA will continue to work with him through the 2014 season,” said Tom Compton, NHRA president. “Roger’s financial support made the series and television broadcast possible, and for that we are grateful.”
