Historic Eddyville Raceway Park Listed for Sale

Eddyville Raceway Park, one of Iowa’s most iconic drag racing venues, is officially up for sale. Located in Oskaloosa, roughly an hour southeast of Des Moines, the eighth-mile facility has been a staple of the Midwest racing scene for nearly six decades and is now on the market following a long stretch of steady ownership and continued investment.

Originally constructed in 1965, Eddyville Raceway Park quickly earned a reputation for its competitive sportsman racing under the AHRA banner. Over the years, it became known not just for its grassroots racing, but also for hosting some of drag racing’s biggest stars. The track has welcomed legends such as Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, “Dyno Don” Nicholson, Vern Moats, Ron Capps, and Tommy Johnson Jr.

In 1993, businessman Carl Moyer acquired the track and invested heavily in its revitalization. That trend continued after its 2006 sale to Gerald Kramer and Scott Gardner. The track has run under the NHRA, IHRA, and WDRA banners since it was last sold. Kramer and Gardner bolstered the facility’s calendar with marquee events like the Night of Fire, World Fuel Altered Nationals, and Funny Car Chaos Series.

“I have spent most of my life in racing and race track ownership and operations,” said Gerald Kramer. “I’m now at the age where I want to slow down a bit. We have a strong financial foundation and business operational structure and tremendous support from many marketing partners,” he continued.

Eddyville has benefited from nearly $250,000 in facility and equipment upgrades. These include new asphalt and concrete paving, concrete safety walls, Musco lighting enhancements, a modern Accutime Timing System, and essential maintenance tools like a new sprayer, power scraper, and FOD mat. The facility also boasts upgraded concessions and grounds maintenance equipment.

Eddyville Raceway Park remains in operation, with a full slate of events continuing through the current season.
