Jacky McCarty started the season with a new car, a new team and a new outlook after 2014. After a few events early in the season, the team began to gel together and their Ford Mustang was reacting to each and every change that McCarty Performance threw at it. After running a new personal best elapsed time of 4.50 at Huntsville Dragway during Radial Fest, McCarty knew he was on to something special.
As the month of May kicked off with the new personal best, McCarty rolled into Motor Mile Dragway for the Mid-Atlantic Radial Mayhem event with a $10,000 X275 payday waiting atop the payout sheet. McCarty made quick work of the tough field that rolled into the Virginia based facility, taking the win and the big payday back home to Bristol, VA. The following week, the McCarty Performance team rolled into Mooresville Dragway for Blake Holcomb’s Spring Nationals.
After fighting a tricky track surface for most of qualifying and eliminations, McCarty and crew chiefs Jason Mote and Josh Lindsey were able to harness enough horsepower to make enough clean passes to rack up back-to-back victories in X275.
After a week off, Jacky and team rolled into the Ohio Valley Dragway in West Point, Kentucky for Round Two of the Prize Fight, also known as the “Fun Nationals,” as codenamed by event promoter Jason Rueckert. Even with the warm conditions, McCarty lit up the scoreboards with mid-4.50 second elapsed times all weekend long. With a titanic final round against Greg Smith and Jack Vanover, the fans were treated to one of the best final rounds that we’ve ever seen in person here at Dragzine.
McCarty took a slight reaction time advantage (.016 to .023 for Smith) and ran a 4.527 to defeat Smith’s 4.533 with the two black Ford Mustangs door to door all the way down the eighth-mile, only separated by thirteen-thousandths of a second at the finish line (.013), giving McCarty a three-for-three sweep in the month of May.
Rolling into the Holly Springs Motorsports facility this past weekend, a huge target was on McCarty’s back as he was ‘the man to beat’ in X275. After getting defeated in the final round of the “Big Money Shootout,” by Shane Fisher, many speculated that the McCarty Performance hot streak in X275 had come to a close. Those speculations were silenced in a hurry as the consistent Ford Mustang kept rolling in low-4.60 elapsed times in the thick, humid Mississippi air.
Jacky went on to defeat Shannon Renfro in a McCarty Performance versus KBX Performance final round – with McCarty streaking to a 4.61 as Renfro lost traction before the sixty-foot cone, making it four in a row for the Virginia-based hot rod.
Jacky spoke wonders of this team that he’s assembled — Jason Mote, Josh Lindsey, the Bruder Brothers, Jeff Swann, Henry Lee and most importantly, his wife Kasie and family.
