NMCA Pro Street and ADRL Pro Nitrous racer Joe Dunne recently completed a successful test session that included a 6.19 lap at Beech Bend Raceway Park before the rains almost literally consumed the track.  Dunne and team were already in Bowling Green when the call went out to postpone the event, and took full advantage of the Friday test session offered by the track to do some testing with a prototype torque converter from Pro Torque.  Following the run, Joe stated the car still had some more left in it, and that’s not good news for the rest of the class, but should make for some great battles with Vinny Budano upon his return to racing.

The current national record in Scorpion Performance Pro Street stands at 6.21.

Dunne’s ’68 Camaro is powered by a monster 860 cubic inch Pat Musi bullet on nitrous and backed by a Powerglide transmission.  In testing at South Georgia back in early March, with the new engine in the car, Joe laid down a 4.04 in the eighth mile that was just a few ticks from Bob Rahaim’s nitrous/converter record of 3.99.  On another pass, he attempted to leg it through the quarter mile, shutting it down at 1,000 feet after hitting the limiter, but still posted a 6.22 at 216 miles per hour that gave some indication of the new combinations’ capability.  With numbers like these, it won’t be long before talk of a 5-second run in NMCA begins to get some hype.
