Jonathan Allegrucci has a stranglehold on the ultra-competitive Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown Series in 2026.
The points leader continued his remarkable hot streak at Bristol Dragway, driving his Ford Mustang Cobra Jet to a third consecutive victory at the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals. With the win, Allegrucci joins 2018 world champion Leah Pruett as the only drivers in Flexjet Factory Stock Showdown history to win three races in a row.
The accomplishment is even more impressive considering the challenges teams faced throughout the weekend. Bristol Dragway’s newly resurfaced racing surface created a unique set of unknowns, while changing weather conditions and a lengthy rain delay tested every team’s ability to stay focused.
For Allegrucci, however, the weekend became another chapter in what is quickly turning into a championship-caliber season.
“I didn’t think two in a row was possible, and I honestly, I didn’t come into this race thinking we could get three in a row,” said Allegrucci from the Flexjet winner’s circle. “I knew how hard this track is. This track is the reason I wanted to start drag racing. I would come to the circle track when I was younger. I drove across the back of the drag strip for parking, and I thought it’d be cool to go drag racing. That was before we even had a car. This track means something to me just for that memory.”
Bristol’s New Surface Creates New Challenges
While Bristol Dragway’s repaved racing surface has received rave reviews from competitors across NHRA’s professional categories, the new pavement also brought uncertainty.
A fresh racing surface means limited data, changing track conditions, and a green racing groove that evolves with every pass. For the Factory Stock competitors, getting a handle on the track was critical.
Allegrucci knew his team would face the same learning curve as everyone else.
“I know how hard it is to make these cars work on this track,” said Allegrucci. “We struggled with it. We have a big car, a heavy car, and a little tire. Everyone said it was a one-lane race track all day, and that right lane was no good. We knew what we had to do to make it go down. We still didn’t know if it would work, but it did. I just couldn’t be prouder of these guys in this team. We worked so hard.”
The Ford Mustang Cobra Jet team’s ability to adapt paid dividends throughout eliminations as they consistently navigated conditions that challenged some of the category’s best drivers.
Dramatic Final Round Ends With Another Victory

The championship round featured one of the toughest matchups possible as Allegrucci squared off against No. 1 qualifier Raymond Nash.
Both drivers had demonstrated big performance potential throughout the weekend, setting up a highly anticipated final between a pair of championship contenders.
When the tree dropped, Allegrucci immediately gained an advantage on the starting line, posting a stellar .024 reaction time compared to Nash’s .043.
As the race unfolded, Nash’s Dodge Challenger Drag Pak carried the front wheels down track before settling back onto the racing surface. Moments later, however, the car drifted toward the centerline. Unable to recover before crossing over, Nash was disqualified, allowing Allegrucci to complete the run and turn on another win light.
The victory secured Allegrucci’s fourth career final-round appearance and his third consecutive Diamond Wally.
Yet when the win light illuminated, racing wasn’t the first thing on his mind.
“The first thing that came to mind when I saw the win light was my wife,” said an emotional Allegrucci. “She doesn’t have to let me be here, but she does. She knows what it means to me and to our family. When that win light came on, that’s all I thought about. That’s what makes it special.”
Mental Toughness Proves Critical
Like many NHRA national events, Bristol featured a lengthy weather delay that forced teams to repeatedly start and stop their race-day routines.
For some competitors, those interruptions can become a distraction. For Allegrucci and his team, it became another challenge to overcome.
“We knew with the weather that today was going to go to whoever’s team was mentally prepared,” said Allegrucci. “We were in and out of the trailer. We hung in there, and it just came together one step at a time. You have to put everything else aside and just take on the task at hand.”
That mindset carried the team through eliminations.
In the semifinals, Allegrucci faced rookie Matthew Hartman in a classic Ford-versus-Chevrolet matchup. Hartman’s COPO Camaro spun the tires immediately, allowing the Mustang Cobra Jet to advance to yet another final round.
On the opposite side of the ladder, Nash earned lane choice with a strong semifinal performance and appeared poised to challenge for the victory before the dramatic conclusion in the final.
The Flexjet Bounty Grows Again
Perhaps the biggest sign of Allegrucci’s dominance is the growing Flexjet bounty.
With each consecutive victory, the bounty rolls over and increases for the next event, creating additional incentive for competitors to end his streak. Thanks to the Bristol victory, the bounty will now increase to $3,000 at the upcoming Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.
For a driver enjoying the hottest stretch of his career, that’s a problem he doesn’t mind having.
“If the bounty is at eight grand at the end of the year, I’m not going to complain,” said Allegrucci.
Allegrucci now joins one of the sport’s most accomplished racers, Leah Pruett, in the record books. More importantly, he continues to strengthen his grip on the championship points lead as the season heads into the heart of summer.
