Stuffing vast quantities of nitrous oxide into an engine is how you can make huge horsepower, or turn a lot of expensive parts into paperweights. The grudge racer known as “Milkman” experienced the latter of the two when his Malibu went from trying to do the G-body shuffle, to becoming a rolling display of fireworks during the Midnight Fire event at Middle Georgia Motorsports Park.
In the grudge and no time racing world, nitrous has been the go-to choice when it comes to adding power without showing your hand when the clocks are off. Racers have become experts at pouring the zesty sauce into their engines and turning what may look like a mild mill, into a raging beast that will put bus lengths on an unsuspecting opponent.
In this video from Jmalcom2004, you see the Milkman is lined up and ready to deliver a beating to the Nova in the opposite lane when things go sideways quickly. Right at the hit, the Malibu coughs and then sneezes a whole bunch of fire out of the hood scoop as it slowly rolls down the track. This isn’t an uncommon thing to see when there’s a nitrous backfire, but the situation takes a turn for the worse in a hurry.
As the Malibu continues to move, the fire only intensifies, causing the driver to make a hasty exit. Just as the Milkman gets out, the front of the Malibu explodes with more fire as more fuel and nitrous are exposed to the inferno. Thankfully, the safety team arrives and began to hit the car with fire extinguishers to put the flames out.
Take a look at the footage that includes several angles, including a Go-Pro on top of the car to see just how intense this fire got.
