Kayla Morton’s Hot Mess Express Is Ready For Outlaw Armageddon

Outlaw Armageddon has earned the reputation of being one of the most difficult no-prep races to win. The event attracts the best no-prep racers you’ll find anywhere, and the Thunder Valley track surface has consistently proven itself tricky to navigate.

Kayla Morton is ready to conquer the big-tire field and pilot her Hot Mess Express Mustang to a victory at Outlaw Armageddon in 2019.

Morton got her start in racing in traditional class racing, but has made the transition to no-prep and is enjoying every minute of it. Her abilities as a driver have been proven with her many victories and a pair of titles in the Redemption No Prep Series.

The 2019 season has been good for Morton and her team thus far, but they’re ready to make that next step to pick up the victory at Outlaw Armageddon.

“So far I feel like the season’s been good overall. We’ve had our ups and downs but I feel the only thing missing from our program right now is just a little bit of consistency. Hopefully, the testing we plan on doing before Outlaw Armageddon will give us that missing consistency and allow us to be totally prepared,” Morton says.

Coming into this year, Morton’s team made numerous changes to the Hot Mess Express so it would be even more competitive in no-prep racing. A billet rearend was added along with a switch to FuelTech for EFI control. The team also plans to put a bigger ProCharger on the Mustang for Outlaw Armageddon so they are armed with as much horsepower as possible.

Adding horsepower is just one of the ways Morton is getting ready for Outlaw Armageddon — preparing herself mentally is another key component of her plan to succeed at the event.

“This is one gnarly race each year. To prepare myself I’m trying to remember there are 96 entries and no matter how much skill you have there is a certain amount of luck you’ll need, because of all the rounds you have to race. I’m trying to not put pressure on myself and just go into this race loose and ready to have fun. We’re going to use this as an opportunity to test for the No Prep Kings race in Chicago and hope luck is on our side so we can make it through this big field of tough racers,” Morton explains.

Morton has competed at Outlaw Armageddon several times so she knows what to expect coming in for the most part. The new multi-round format for the race in 2019 is going to be a game-changer and racers have to be ready for it. Morton has done her homework and is ready to take on the format while putting on a show for her fans that will get to see even more side-by-side racing.

“I think the most consistent car without breaking anything major is going to win. Not only do you have to win the three qualifying races, you then have to go at least four or five rounds to win the race. The key to winning the race is to just keep your car together. This new format is refreshing and will give the fans something different to watch. If their favorite driver gets beat one time they will still get to see them race more. Going to Outlaw Armageddon is just about having fun and hanging out with friends from all over,” Morton says.

You can see Kayla take on the best no-prep racers in the world during Outlaw Armageddon at Thunder Valley Raceway Park August 2-3. The race will be broadcast on SpeedVideo.com RIGHT HERE for fans around the world to check out. This broadcast is brought to you by presenting sponsor FAST, along with TCI, Lithium Pros, Driven Racing Oil, Race Star Wheels, Weld Racing Wheels, Billet Atomizer Injectors, ProCharger, Howards Cams, and Brodix.
