With such a short lifespan as an automobile company compared to others, it’s easy to see why we don’t see a whole lot of true AMC rides out on the 1320. Luckily, like any other company that’s produced quite a few cool things, there’s a tight-knit following of enthusiasts keeping the name alive. Nearing closer to becoming the fastest stock-bodied AMC out there, Kevin Fontenot is just doing what he can to enjoy his bad to the bone AMC Gremlin.
The Gremlin was far short of anything remotely fast in stock form, but head on over to Yellow Bullet to see what makes Kevin’s car unique. Take a 7 second ride with Kevin in the video below-
Just last year, Kevin was knockin’ on 7’s door for quite some time, consistently running in the low 8’s with his all-out N/A 463″ AMC engine, bangin’ gears with a Liberty 5 speed, but getting so close to the 7’s, Kevin wanted more and decided to get some nitrous on-board. On his 3rd pass with the 225 hit, Kevin got what he was looking for with a cool 7.911. It was barely a 7, but a 7 no less. Before the season was over with, Kevin managed to squeeze out a 7.73 and 7.71 at Milan Dragway, the more seat time with the new setup, the better things got.
Over the off-season, Kevin made a few significant changes to the drivetrain hoping to go as far as he could with this chassis cert, bumping the C.I. up to 498″ with a fresh engine. Growing used to adapting to his frequent setup changes, Kevin muscled out a 7.68 on the car’s first full pass, following it up a few hours later with the car’s best to date – a 7.59 at 178 MPH. Kevin never thought he’d be running to the end of his 7.50 cert, but that looks to be the case if he wants to step things up just a smidgen more. Kevin’s next goal – doing it all on a set of 10.5’s.
