Having amassed so many wins and having accomplished so much, Mark Micke and Jason Carter have established and earned their remarkable reputations in the racing world.

Micke, as the driver of crew chief Carter’s Malibu, motored to the NMCA Pro Street championship in 2008, the NMCA Super Street 10.5W championship in 2013 and the ADRL Pro Drag Radial championship in 2013. He and Carter worked hard for the more than $100,000 they received when Micke won in Radial vs. The World at Donald Long’s Sweet 16 event in 2018, and many more examples of their expertise exist.

They used 2019 to work on making their strong program even stronger, beginning with having their big-block Chevrolet-based engine built by ProLine with a custom Dart billet aluminum block, a Callies crank, Bill Miller rods and pistons, Total Seal rings, and topped with new billet heads plus a new billet intake by Visner Engine Development. The masterpiece is fronted by a pair of GT-57 98mm turbos from Garrett, a company Micke and Carter have long relied on for an abundance of boost.

They also added a FuelTech FT600 engine management system, and Michael Bunton handled the wiring, and Jamie Miller offers input on tuning the killer combination.

“We started having ProLine assemble and maintain the engine in the middle of last year,” said Micke, who builds the two-speed lock-up Turbo 400 and multi-stage lock-up converter that back the car’s engine at his shop, M&M Transmission in Jefferson City, Missouri.

It proved to be a potent combination, as it generated a gargantuan 4,700 horsepower on the dyno.

After deciding they wanted to add Pro 275 to their racing resume, they made additional changes to the combination over winter.

“For Pro 275 trim, we changed gear ratios in the transmission and the rear-end, and we went from the 315 tire to the 275 Mickey Thompson drag radial tire around our Weld wheels,” said Micke. “And, Carmack Engineering worked with us on the best ratio for a new billet aluminum center section.”

When the work was wrapped up, they made the trip from Missouri to Florida for the U.S. Street Nationals in January at Bradenton Motorsports Park, where Micke entered Pro 275, and then they made the trip to Georgia for Lights Out 11 in February at South Georgia Motorsports Park, where Micke again entered Pro 275.

“We struggled to get down track a little on tires we haven’t been running long, and we didn’t go rounds at either event,” said Micke. “When we brought the car back to the shop, we went through everything, and then went to a test session at Carolina Dragway a few weeks ago, and had good results. We ran 3.80 flat, and we felt good about that. We’re confident we can put down consistent and quicker passes because we have good data now.”

There’s no doubt that Micke, Carter and their crew members, including Damon Cole and Blake Housley, will put that data to good use at their next race, the highly-anticipated 4th Annual Wooostock, May 14-16 at Darlington Dragway in South Carolina.

“We ran at the first Wooostock, and we got beat by Stevie Fast in the final round of eliminations, so we’ll see if we can go all the way at this year’s event,” said Micke, who also plans to take part in the COVID-8, a Radial vs. The World and Pro 275 event, May 22-23 at Orlando Speed World Dragway and in the Mickey Thompson Radial Rampage at the Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA Power Festival presented by HPJ Performance, May 28-31, at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois. “Wooostock is an awesome race, and Darlington Dragway is a first-rate facility. We’re looking forward to it.”
