Mind-Blowing Video: Andrew Alepa’s Corvette Cranks Out 5,235 HP!

On Tuesday evening, videosharing giant YouTube experienced an historic outage that affected nearly two-thirds of the planet, or around 1.2 billion of its 1.9 billion monthly viewers — and we think we know the culprit.

That same evening, Ball Ground, Georgia’s Pro Line Racing uploaded video of Andrew Alepa’s Radial versus The World C7 Corvette taking a rip on a Mainline hub dynamometer, and when you see the numbers it produced, you’ll understand how it shut down the global grid and brought YouTube to a crashing halt.

Powered by Pro Line’s 548 cubic-inch all-billet Hemi with twin 102mm turbochargers, Alepa’s 3.6-second Corvette cranked out a staggering, otherworldly 5,235 horsepower at 9,683 rpm and 3,035 lb-ft of torque at 8,506 rpm, making these engines perhaps second only to a dual-mag, large pump nitro Hemi in terms of sheer horsepower. The big Hemi is controlled by FuelTech’s FT600 ECU and fired by FuelTech’s FTSpark-8 CDI coil-near-plug setup.

Lest you think the number is somehow inaccurate, consider what this twin-turbo Hemi accomplishes: pushing a 2,950-pound car on a 11.4-inch tread-width tire from 0-216 mph in 3.64-seconds. It’s eighth-mile performance, extrapolated out to the quarter-mile but taking into account elapsed time loss due to gearing and tune, would still ballpark it in the upper 5.6-second range at around 265 mph.

Know what’s even more impressive? Although percentages vary, the parasitic losses from the transmission, converter, ring and pinion, and so on typically account for upwards of 15-percent horsepower loss from the crankshaft to the hub; 5,235 plus 15-percent equals 6,020 horsepower. Let that sink in.
