As though Khalid Balooshi wasn’t applying enough pressure to the collective throats of his competition in both the ADRL and the NHRA in his Speedtech Nitrous-backed ’68 Camaro this season, things are about to get worse for the rest of the Pro Nitrous field when the new national ET and MPH record holder debuts what chassis builder Jerry Bickel calls the lightest car to date in the class. Soon to roll out of the Jerry Bickel Race Cars shop in Missouri is a brand new, state-of-the-art ’68 Camaro expected to make its competition debut at the Independence Drags V at Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas next month.
Bickel and his team have pulled out all the stops on this new machine with several new innovations, highlighted by the use of a special blend of paint that utilizes a thermo barrier to reduce wind resistance at speeds that have now reached 200 and change in the eighth mile.
“We’re really thinking outside the box with this car,” Bickel said in an ADRL.us interview. “We’re pulling out all the stops on this one. It’s going to be the lightest car out there.”
Balooshi’s current Bickel-built entry has racked up quite the resume since its debut last summer. While most of America was inundated with snow this winter, Balooshi was busy dominating Pro Nitrous in the Arabian Drag Racing League, and now with three races in the books in both the ADRL and NHRA, Balooshi has two wins and a runner-up in the Get Screened America Pro Mod Series and one win in ADRL Pro Nitrous.
