The National Hot Rod Association today announced its 2022 Camping World Drag Racing Series schedule, featuring 22 races and venues familiar to its legions of fans. Fan-favorite events such as the NHRA Arizona Nationals in Phoenix, the Virginia NHRA Nationals in Richmond, and the Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle, which will serve as the traditional conclusion of the annual Western Swing, all will be part of a resurgent series aiming to turn the tide of difficulties faced throughout the pandemic.
The Auto Club Raceway at Pomona will return to its season-opening position on the calendar for the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com. For the first time in four seasons, the NHRA will host a specialty race amongst the stars of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series nitro categories — fans will be treated to not one but two NHRA Allstar Shootout events in 2022, at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals and the prestigious Dodge//SRT NHRA U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend. Then teams will focus in on the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs, which will return to a six-race format, and set their sights on an NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series world title.
Notably, Phoenix will rejoin the series as its second stop (Feb. 25-27), Bristol will return to its summer date on the calendar (June 17-19), and Seattle will rejoin the series after a two-year hiatus on the weekend of July 29-31. As previously reported, Virginia Motorsports Park is also back on the schedule after missing its 2021 race date, to be held May 13-15. The Route 66 Raceway near Chicago will again not be part of the tour, and the permanent closure of the Houston Raceway Park eliminates one additional date on what has traditionally been a 24-race schedule.
“Next season will see 22 national events from the NHRA Camping World Series,” said NHRA President Glen Cromwell. “We look forward to bringing our loyal NHRA fans a season packed full of thrilling racing action.”
Details on Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, Pro Modified, and Nitro Harley schedules will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
