Mark Lyle, a Long time NHRA Division 6 starter, has been named the Official Starter for the NHRA. On February 1st, Mark Lyle was given the official news by the NHRA. Since 2000, Mark has been the starter at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington where he has spent a untold amount time perfecting his art at the starting line. Lyle’s hard work paid off and five years later, he was named the official starter of the NHRA Division 6.
Lyle had the opportunity to work along side of the recently retired Rick Stewart at various National events. Stewart recently retired, held the position from 1996 to 2011. Stewart was one, of only two Chief starters in the 60 plus years of history in the NHRA, where Stewart took the reins from Buddy Couch who served as NHRA chief starter from 1955-1996. The official NHRA starter is one of the highest accomplishments a NHRA team member can achieve. On February 9th at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California. Lyle will be sending down his first pair as the official starter at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Winter Nationals. NHRA Senior Vice President of Race Operations said Mark Lyle, “Demonstrated the characteristics necessary to take on this very important position.” Mr. Light went on to say that, “He always has safety first and foremost in his mind and strives to be fair and just in his decision-making.”
“It is simply the highest honor anyone in my position can have,” said Lyle, who resides in North Bend, Wash., with his family. “I really have to thank Kenworth Northwest for being flexible with my NHRA work schedule over the years and for allowing me to pursue my dream. To follow in the footsteps of two iconic and legendary figures in NHRA history is beyond words. I am looking forward to sending off the first pair in Pomona.”
Mark Lyle will be sending Top Fuel, Funny Car and Pro Mods down the strip, and countless other classes. I’m sure the drivers of all classes feel that they are in more than capable hands.
