The formation of the NHRA Pro Mod series a few years ago can be attributed to Roger Burgess, who made a financial commitment with backing from his companies ProCare Rx and Get Screened America. The hope was that someone would take over the series sponsorship after a few years, but so far no other company has stepped up to do it. When Roger announced last year he was not going to continue sponsoring the series beyond 2013, speculation about the class’ future began to run wild. Many thought that 2013 would be the final season, but today the NHRA announced the series will continue regardless. NHRA will continue to search for sponsorship opportunities for the series, and event purses and bonuses for 2014 will be dependent the structure of the deal. With this announcement, doorslammer fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
“We are appreciative of Roger Burgess’ sponsorship of the Pro Mod class since 2010,” said Tom Compton, president, NHRA. “We look forward to what will surely be an exciting 2013 season.”
The 2013 Pro Mod Series will once again feature 10 races and will be contested at the same events as 2012. Each event will feature 16-car fields where drivers will earn Wallys and points towards the season championship. The season will kick off in Gainesville, FL at the Gatornationals and will culminate in Las Vegas, where Troy Coughlin overcame a three round deficit in dramatic fashion to win the title this year.
