ADRL Pro Extreme team owner Don Carter, who has been without a secure driver thus far this season aboard his supercharged 1968 Camaro, has tabbed Top Alcohol Funny Car driver and tuner Nick Bastio to pilot his machine for the remainder of the 2011 ADRL season, beginning with this weekends Kanas National Guard Independence Drags VI in Topeka.

The team began the year with former Top Fuel team owner and Pro Stock pilot Bill Windham at the wheel in Houston, followed by Carter’s good friend and former West Coast Top Alcohol Funny Car hitter Bret Williamson in a temporary role at the Palm Beach and Maple Grove ADRL events before his own racing schedule began to ramp up, leaving him unable to commit to the full ADRL tour.

Carter and Bastio worked out a deal following the Maple Grove event and some initial testing was done at Topeka following the recent NHRA Summer Nationals to get Bastio acclimated to his new environs. Following testing, the team made some changes to the Camaro to improve both driver comfort within the cockpit and to the combination and car setup to bolster the front half numbers.

The Carter Motorsports team missed the field at the season opener in Houston with a 4.79 best and again at Palm Beach with a much-improved 3.93, but made their first start at Maple Grove with a 4.00. Williamson made a stellar 3.81 lap in the opening round there, but was no match for #1 qualifier Frankie Taylor.

Carter and Bastio will have backing from NorCal Copiers and LifeMed ID for the remainder of the season.
