SELECT COVERAGE BY DAY:

- I did’nt recognize this one at first but it’s the former Tim Lynch car now owned and driven by T.J. Casper.
- The nuimber 1 NMRA drag radial guy Jason Lee is here looking for a big payday. I caught a test hit earlier from the tower where he got some air. It’s a new game for him on some Mickey Thompson tires instead of the NMRA class required BFG hoops.
- Eric Stubbs took out the 330′ cone on his last pass.
- Some racers were getting down the track just fine, some were not as evidenced by this Camaro, no this is not a burnout. I shot the photo just after the launch.
- NMCA racer Nick Owens shows how it’s done, hanging the wheels on a clean pass
- Scotty Gaudagno and Jeff Cooner were the first pair down to run side by side 4.60’s.
- Bill Futch is behind the wheel of Mel Nelson’s twin turbo Camaro, they have not made a full pas yet today.
- Enzo Pechini made the trip from Canada to run in the 10,000 to win TRZ Motorsports Ultimate Street class. Pechini runs a Procharger F1C feeding into the Panhandle Performance built engine.
- Daniel Farris out of Sikeston Missouri has this nice looking 95 Mustang. The single turbo car has a 434 Bennett engine for motivation. They hurt the engine testing here in January so this is the first outing for the fresh mill.
- Eric Dillard had the quickest pass of the day with a 4.55 @ 173 MPH. David Wolfe was close behind with a 4.59 @ 167. No one else ran in teh .50’s
- JoJo Milton laid down an exciting run during todays test session carrying the wheels pretty much the length of the track, just letting off near the finish to set the front down in the lights. Check out the sequence below
- Jim Plimpton aka “Dr Ford” set his T Bird on the bumper today. he won the Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags with this car in 2008. Now it’s got 18 bolt heads, more boost, different rear gears and Q16 for fuel, also a blow thru carb from C&S.
- This is the race debut for Enrique Pirez’ new look and a fresh 23* small block. They are competing in Ultimate Street this weekend.
- Chad Opaleski took out the planetaries on his transmission tonight. Steve Cannizio is making the repairs while Chad open up the converter to check for damage to that. He had a pass in the 4.8 range today and should be good to go for qualifying.
- An ORTC race would not be complete without massive quantities of food out of Don Long’s pit for anyone who stops by. Someone left Donald in charge of the grill but I don’t think that was such a good idea.
- Another racer that broke a gear set is Patrick Barnhill. Yellow Bullet member Dave Klaput (F RIZZO) from ProFormance Transmissions in Elborn Illinois handled the repairs on this one. Lack of spare parts forced him to install the stock 2.48 gear set instead of a 1.96 that came out. The steeper gear will have Patrick adjusting the tune and boost ramp in the AMS controller.
- Dave Hance had some damage under the car to the transmission pan and rack mount at least after the wheelie this evening. They are going to assess if there is any further damage and see if they can get it patched up for tomorrow.
- Jerry Gunter has a F.A.S.T. ECU go out on him. It’s an older box so they have had trouble finding one to swap into the car. The car has a BBC with twin gear driven Prochargers, they will need some luck to get it going again this weekend but Travis Quillen was there making some calls so you never know..
- Sam Vincent ripped off a 4.61 @ 156 MPH off the trailer yesterday. His small block Ford has nearly 1000HP NA and then another 900 HP of nitrous in three kits on top of that. He looking to run 4.50’s today.
- Glen Carry from Rossville, Georgia owns this single turbo alcohol burning Nova. Billy Smith will be driving the car in the Radial vs the World class this weekend. This is the first big event for the car and they are looking for their first 4 second pass here today.
- Walt Drakeford and the Real Speed crew made the trip up from Clearwater with two cars. Jeff Gibbud’s 7.50 index car and this Mustang owned by Mike Burkhart. Charlie Pixley handles the driving duties. It’s got a new 434 ci engine fom Bennet Racing and has once race on it. So far it’s been a 5.28 @ 130+ and they are looking for a .20 flat on the first hit according to Walt.
- In what is arguably the most interesting and controversial vehicle on the lot. Owned and driven by Bobby Dodrill this Chevy Truck has a 541 Keith Black Olds with Dart Big Chief heads, and a PSI D rotor screw blower. What makes it stand apart is the all wheel drive. Last year they ran a centrifigal clutch but have switched to a Bruno drive and Neil Chance covnverter and a custom Liberty 3 speed transmission. He has been 3 flatt to the 330′ last year but had problems with the prior set up shifting. If they get a full pass Bobby said it should run 4.40’s
- Goodyear has come on board as a sponsor for the truck this year as well as Edelbrock, Libery Trans, VP Fuels, JW Transmissions and several others
- Another racer that did quite well yesterday was Brian Goss. The south Florida racer says he has a completly stock 87 Mustang with a special order Vortech YSI supercharger. Whatever the combo he has the fastest 275 car on the lot that I know running a 5.12. Brian was made famous recently by the Goss Knowsss viral vidoes by Dragraceplace.com. They are looking to run one hit like this, then swap to an F1C blower to see if can run a little better.
- Tab Jordan will be driving this Mustang for Steve Wheeler in BMF Extreme Street. The South Carolina based team has been 5.10 at other tracks which should put them in the hunt if the can duplicate that type of performance here. They have a small block Ford on two foggers under the hood.
- Brian Goss has low ET and the top spot in the TRZ Motorsports Ultimate Street class after one round.Goss’ team mate Mike Freeman had to pedal and showed some smoke after the lights.
- Tony Ridenour was the first car to run well with a 4.75 @ 151 but wound up seventeenth. The top qualifying position changed hands several times afterwards and ended up with David Wolfe from Texas with shocking 4.51 @ 172. He is definitely looking to be the first to the 4.40’s after that pass.
- Another racer out of Texas is Kyle Huettel. The 2002 Camaro has a an 870 Fulton on board.
- Travis Thompson gets the proud honor of being the very first car in class to run a 4 second pass.
- I think wheelies were the order of the day. Here Bobby Flippen hangs then past the tree in his S 10 Chevy. He is 20th with a 5.41 @ 133. It’s a 91 model with a 434 ci SBC on the bottle and has been at least low 20’s last year.
- Ronnie Wilson is in the field at 33rd position with a 6.19. He wheelied in this session and had to lift
- Troy Pirez stepped it up in this session as well, all the way to fifth with a 5.08 @146
- The BMF Extreme 275 class has 42 cars and is an all run format. Travis Thompson still has the number one spot and the only car in the fours so far. He improved to a 4.94 @ 145 in the second session today. They will have one more qualifier in the morning.
- I don’t have a qualifying sheet for the Outlaw 330′ Jr’s. There several cars in the 3.8x range though and the kids have a lot of fun. I will have some more info coming tomorrow on this class.
- Travis Thompson gets the proud honor of being the very first car in class to run a 4 second pass.
- Red Tazz Express out of Texas , driver Clint Le Blanc. The car has a 116 MM turbo and engine by Jeff Naiser. Josh Linsdy was looking over the tune in the lap top when I stopped by , he drives another car seen below. I got the news from this crew on fellow Texan JoJo hurt it and is on the way back home allready.
- I went waay up to the front of the pits and found these guys in the corner. Alonzo Floyd out of Texas is the owner/driver. It’s an 86 Camaro with a 758 ci BBC from Scotty’s Racing Technology out of Spring Hill Florida. They get the award for being pitted farthest fom the starting line this weekend.
- I herd many people commenting how beutiful Shane Parker’s car is today. They were just wrapping up a trans and converter swap. They have not had too much luck getting down the track yet so are looking to get into the field during the final session.
- John Baessell burned up a piston and is waiting for a replacement being driven up from South Florida. He is currently 23rd in the Ultimate Street field.
- Number one qualifier in the BMF Extreme class Travis Thomason also hurt a piston on their last hit today. They had the new slug in and shoud be good tomorrow. Joe Gilbert was inside the trailer cleaning off the head. He owns Morirson Construction and is the main sponser of the operation. They run Inducion Solutions nitrous system.
- This morning pit rounds are thanks to Steve Cannizio at CRT Transmissions. First I drove down to the spectator parking area to check things out and found Francis Johnson. He has a new glass nose on the car and some other work on the front half of the chassis including swapping to strut front from AJE. The local series allows the nitrous cars to be 3000 lbs so this should help them out quite a bit. He ran a 4.75 on a soft tune for 17th position in Radial vs the World
- Keith and Wade Nuelett brothers out of Lousiana have a brand new car here this weekend built by B&B Race Cars. They made the first hiits on it here in Georgia and have not had any good passes yet. They are making some chassis adjustments this AM. They do their own engines and this one is a twin turbo SBF.
- Mel Nelson and the CZR guys were going over some video from yesterday evaluating things. I spoke with Carlos Zaldivar and he is a little frutstrated with Bill Futch not keeping the car straight down track and they may be making a driver change today and putting Mel back int he car.
- Chris Tuten is on the lot making some test passes in prep for the NMRA race next weekend. He also has a car in theTRZ Ultimate Street class and is22nd so far with a 5.43 @131MPH
- Bill Clary from Outlaw Inductions from Blackshear Georgia. They are struggling here this weekend and are about 3 tenths of their normal 5.20’s.
- Rickey Pennington has a clean 69 Chevelle, he rode out a nice wheelie this AM
- Kevin Smith launched hard in the TRZ turbo charged Malibu then came down hard. It looked like some may have broke something int he front end and put it inthe wall. He’s OK.
- Jerry Gunter stood it up in a big way while matched up against Josh Peel out of Chipley Florida. All eyes were on Gunter but Peel rolled out to a nice 4.69. He has been running great this weekend running to 4.67’s yesterday
- It just keeps getting better as Wolfe set low ET yet again with a 4.47. putting Tony Ridenour on the trailer. I have run out for more video..
- Brian Goss just keeps getting faster and faster. Running a 4.98 @ 136 in round one to take out Labron Hill making him the first 4 second car in TRZ Ultimate Street. I know before the race there was talk of 5.0’s but I don’t think anyone really expected any 4’s
- I ran into these guys pullin into the motel. Ben and Damon (stangman98 on YB) flew in from Wisconson to catch the action. They are staying over for the finale on Sunday.
- Here is a shot of the damage on the Sanders/Rackley Ride. It looks mostly cosmetic to me.
- SGMP Manager Tim and The Duck Saturday Night. Good job on the race guys, it’s off the chain. No doubt about it.
- From left to right, Scotty G, Nate Prichett, Ellen and Big Sexy. Scotty qualified third with a 4.58 @ 163 and won his first round with a 4.71. He faces off with Josh Peel out of Chiply Florida driving a turbocharged 92 Camaro.
- Istopped by Shannon Wren’s toter before I left to see what was what. Ifound part of mak Woodruff’s crew enjoying the night. Woodruff hails from Arnold Missouri and drive the georgous 76 Corvette in Radial vs the World. He made 46th on the sheet with a 4.94 but that have to head out in the AM to get home. Wren has updated the team Jager car to a large BBC with twins on alcohol and 25.3 chassis, NBS Fabrication should be wrapped up with the build in a month or so.
- Ruben Tetsoshvelle from Wesley Florida is here with a first race on a new combo. He made the switch from small block to a 657 ci BBC from Fast Forward Race Engines and twin 108 MM turbos. The car was upgraded by Robert Coady of Catagory Five Race Cars in Zepherhills FL in five days to make this race. PH 813-323-8432

Clint Lonon ran 5.13 to get by Kenward, a new best for the team.
