Major’s Corvette after the extremely hard impact with the right wall at Englishtown

Paul Major is one of our favorite personalities out on the drag radial circuit and as most fans seen he had quite a 2009. We have been fortunate enough to interview Paul in the past as well as spend some time finding out just where his passion stems from. Major is a Corvette guy to the core which shows by the performance of his drag radial ride. Last season he picked DMC Racing to revamp the Corvette for a new onslaught of power from a big block twin turbo combination. His old combination had much success from being the fastest LSX powered drag radial car to winning the Orlando World Street Nationals in memory of his late friend Leo Barnaby.

Dennis MacPherson and his crew at DMC Racing have built some of the fastest stock suspension cars in the country. Visit their website to see how it happens.

The DMC crew is working feverishly to rebuild Paul’s Corvette with new state of the art design

The new power would come in the midst of a battle to join the six second club on radials which had the first two members established in Dave Hance and Kevin Fiscus. Alex Vrettos would jump on board at Maryland International Raceway mid-season and the heat would be on for the remaining three spots. Paul Major battled through the new combination blues and settled in on a great baseline showing much promise for that six second time slip.

Mike Modeste was next to gain that illustrious spot and then Paul would also make the trip to Maryland International Raceway. 10/14/2009 was the date and Paul unleashed his Corvette to a 6.98 second run at over 210mph. All the glory in the world wouldn’t prepare Paul for the unfortunate fate at the Shakedown at Etown when he careened hard into the right wall during competition. Most critics were quick to jump the gun on writing off the Corvette as scrap but Paul and DMC Racing’s Dennis MacPherson had different plans.

As 2010 graced its presence the rebuild was already burning the midnight oil at the Halifax, Massachusetts based DMC. Dennis and his crew started cutting away the torn and tattered body panels and well as the extensively damaged front end of the chassis. From the looks of the progress it has been taken on as it were a brand new build due to the extensive damage. One of the unique features is that Dennis has incorporated a removable transmission tunnel for ease of access during transmission swaps.  That is one of the gremlins that Paul has endured over the past few seasons due to the extreme heat from the turbo piping running through the car towards the back of the rear mount setup.

The best news of all is that we will see the smiling face of the Fort Solonga, New York resident this season once the rebuild is complete and you can only imagine what Paul will do to get back to the top. Cecil County Dragway will more than likely be one of the places we get to see him this year and with the level of competition that frequents the Outlaw Street Car Shootouts it should be insane!
