Virginia Motorsports Park was filled with the roar of engines and the glorious smell of burning rubber and VHT this weekend as the Red Line Oil PDRA Drag Racing Series culminated in an exciting showdown at the Pro Line Racing Brian Olson Memorial World Finals presented by ProCharger. Drivers, during the PDRA World Finals 2024, engaged each other in a fight for championship glory.

Butner Breaks the Barrier

Friday was an incredible night of history, as rookie sensation Randi Lyn Butner destroyed the 3-second barrier in Extreme Pro Stock, something that had never been done before. Her record-break­ing 3.997-second pass set up an action-packed weekend of intense competition.

Champions Crowned

Eliminations on Saturday ran the gamut from blowouts to heart-stoppers. Several drivers sealed their names into PDRA lore by taking home world championships in their class.

2021 Extreme Pro Stock champion Chris Powers returned to defend his title with a commanding first round victory. Already assured of the Pro 632 title, Amber Franklin Denton toasted her championship by establishing a new national E.T. record – 4.086 – the first sub-4.10 in the class.

Rising star and Jr. Dragster carryover Ethan Steding made his mark, grabbing the Pro Street world championship, demonstrating the depth of his young talent and love for this sport. Dan Whetstine, the new champion, put his name on the list, claiming the Afco Racing Super Street class with a strong performance.

Championship Battles Continue On

The final rounds went on in other classes, with championships still very much up for grabs.

In Pro Nitrous, points leader Fredy Scriba put down a scorcher of a 3.628-second pass best of the opening round, looking to run down his first world title. However, last year’s champion Tommy Franklin kept the title chase very much alive and set up a potential final-round showdown for the ages.

Pro Boost featured a clash of the titans in reigning champion Jason Harris, who looked to extend his winning streak against rising star Kurt Steding. Harris took the round one victory with a 3.573-second pass, but Steding remained a threat, needing an event win to snatch the championship away.

Sportsman Standouts 

Fierce competition is not exclusive to the pro classes. Sportsman racers also had some exciting performances to their credit, and Mark Reese won the MagnaFuel Top Sportsman championship. Other sportsman categories still to be decided and bled over into Sunday.

PDRA Crowns 2024 World Champions at Thrilling Season Finale

The PDRA Pro Line Racing Brian Olson Memorial World Finals presented by ProCharger at Virginia Motorsports Park concluded in dramatic fashion, crowning champions in all classes and record-shattering performances to ensure the conclusion of a season that will be remembered for years to come. Jason Harris locked up his control of Pro Boost with a second consecutive world championship and a victory, but Fredy Scriba will have it remembered as he won his first-ever world championship in Pro Nitrous. It was Richard Reagan, Johnny Pluchino, and Lexi Tanner who took home the crowns in Pro Street, Extreme Pro Stock, and Pro 632, respectively. Brunson Grothus finally saw his championship dream come true in Pro Extreme Motorcycle, and Brad McBride finished one hell of a comeback story in Super Street. Championships were also awarded in the Sportsman and Jr. Dragster categories as a proper payoff to a season of such brutal competition and extraordinary achievement.
