For months now, there has been a stir in the LSX community about one very special Camaro, but we’re not talking about the ZL1. Instead, we’re referring to the 1LE road race package that will be gracing the streets, and more notably, tracks in the form of the 2013 Camaro models. But you don’t have to take our word for it. Just check out how a special 1LE is prepping for its first Sports Car Club of America Touring 2 Competition in the video above.
Introduced initially in 1988, the 1LE package is a pure road racing setup. Like we told you back in March, in it’s new version for the modern Camaro, the 1LE package offers an exclusive Tremec TR6060-MM6 six-speed transmission with air-to-liquid cooling system, 3.91 final drive ratio, ZL1 high-capacity fuel pump and pickups, and a reinforced suspension system with monotube rear dampers, large front and rear stabilizer bars, and ZL1 mounts, links and bearings.
Of course the package wouldn’t be complete without the same ZL1 20-inch aluminum wheels and sticky Goodyear Eagle Supercar G:2 tires (smaller in the rear than the ZL1).
This package lives and breaths for the track, making it the perfect combination for the SCCA T2 competition. With Todd Napieralski, driver of the Total Performance Racing #39 GTS Camaro SS, behind the first 1LE to make it to the SCCA T2 class, we’re sure to see amazing results.
In testing and practice, the Total Performance Racing #33 1LE Camaro has already made strides in its class, throwing down a qualifying lap time faster than the current T2 track record at the Pittsburg International Race Complex. Napieralski says that the car still needs a bit more tuning to get it completely ready for competition, but to already hold a track record is astonishing.
Best of luck goes out to Napieralski and the Total Performance Racing team as they take on SCCA club racing and national championships with their new 1LE Camaro. We can’t wait to see the 1LE track package take track competition to a whole new level.
