NHRA Pro Modified racer Steve Matusek has announced he will continue the 2020 Pro Mod season in a backup race car from Elite Motorsports following an incident at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis over Labor Day weekend. Matusek debuted his 2020 Pro Mod Mustang with new title sponsor, Tequila Comisario, at Indianapolis before his incident in round one of eliminations.
With continued support from Tequila Comisario, Matusek will pilot the black sixth-generation Camaro that he drove to a personal best of 5.739 at 252.05 mph during the 2020 Door Slammer Nationals in Orlando. the Camaro utilizes a ProCharger supercharger and Elite Motorsports horsepower. The car’s livery will again feature the Tequila Comisario logo and bottles.
“We’re extremely appreciative of the team we have behind us. We wouldn’t be able to finish the season after such an unfortunate set of events without Richard Freeman of Elite Motorsports, Justin Elkes of Modern Racing, and Fran Vivenzio of Tequila Comisario,” Matusek says. “We really feel good about this combination and the car. You just can’t keep a good team down.”
Matusek will attend the remaining four NHRA Pro Mod races in the 2020 season: the AMALIE Motor Oil Gatornationals in Gainesville, the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Pennzoil at World Wide Technology Raceway, the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex, and the Dodge NHRA Finals presented by Pennzoil in Las Vegas.
