Make no mistake about it, there have been more makes and models of vehicles transformed into straight line warriors than in any other form of auto racing in the world, due in large part to the fact that drag racing, as a generally grass roots sport, is virtually anything goes-goes given enough imagination and cold, hard cash. The only sport that perhaps even comes close is demolition derbies, and even that’s debatable.

Amidst all of the obvious and very common, dime-a-dozen choices like the Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird, the Ford Mustang and Thunderbird, Dodge Challengers and Darts, Vegas, Novas, Barracudas, Chevelles, and Corvettes, we’ve seen countless one-off builds that are the product of pure ingenuity, from BMW’s and Mercedes to Jagaur, Lexus, Lamborghini, Nash, and many other rare auto manufacturer’s models. Of course, we’ve also seen such off-the-wall vehicles as Astro Vans, SmartCars, and the like.
But are still many – numbering in the hundreds – of make the models of vehicles worldwide and throughout the decades that we’ve never seen in drag racing form. And we way say drag racing form, we mean looking the part, and not just competing in stock or almost-stock form with a set of radials and some exhaust bolted-on. Real, honest-to-goodness drag cars.
What do you think?

Would a rear-engine supercar like the Bugatti Veyron, Porsche 918 Spyder, Lamborghini Aventador look slick as a big block, twin-turbo radial car? What about a Porsche Panamera, with its hatch back-style body, as a Pro Modified car with a wing on top? Or perhaps an early 70’s Chrysler, in all its oversize glory, as a Stocker or Super Stocker hanging the hoops? The two-door AMC Matador (which may exist out there somewhere as a race car) has all the makings of a killer-looking limited-tire car slammed down low with a great stance, and loving ahead to present day, vehicles like the Tesla Model S and the new Chevy Impala would both looks exceptional wearing a cowl hood, some skinnies up front and 275’s on the rear.
Tell us what vehicle, past or present you think would make a great race car. If you had unlimited funds, what would you build that no one else has?
