Bob at NRC Motorsports posted some new images on the Yellow Bullet forums of his great looking new 1978 Fairmont wagon small tire car that is being built at his Aiken, South Carolina chassis shop. Like any station wagon, you get plenty of style points for running one and when they are done right, with the right stance, they are pretty darn cool and this one is absolutely that.
Bob is building this grocery getter to run events down south and along the east coast in the hotbed of drag radial racing, with a focus on Donald Long’s now infamous ORTC races. To make the car fairly flexible in where it can be taken to race, Bob has constructed the car in a manner to allow any tire from a 315 Drag Radial down to the popular 275 to fit underneath it.
The stock suspension Fairmont features a 25.5 chassis, which if Bob decides to haul some kids to soccer practice with it, is more than enough to keep them safe. He indicates that the decision hasn’t been reached yet which of his engines – either the 588-incher from his beautiful blue Corvette or a small block – will go in the car, and that decision is still a few weeks away given the current state of the car. Bob mentioned he already has more then 200 hours of time put into the car, and all that hard work really shows. We can’t wait to see this car on the track ripping those radials.
