Last weekend the Cecil County Dragway held its monthly Saturday Street Car Shootout series, which contained several points championship implications. From Ultra Street to Big Tire Outlaw, the points were close, and with Shakedown just a week away the racers were putting their combinations on kill to see who could come away with the upper hand. The weather was nearly perfect and the track surface was on point for just about anything you could throw at it providing some killer numbers.
First class to up the bar was X275 as the Bruder brothers and Mustang Mike did the unthinkable once again. Amidst all of the mid-year rules changes for the team they persevered and continued to win races and set records — like the 4.55-second pass at 158mph they would score on this weekend on the way to another final round victory over Dean Marinis.
Just one month after the Yellowbullet Nationals left town, the racers in Outlaw 10.5 assembled yet another impressive field. TJ “Kid Kwik” Kasper quickly found himself in the spotlight. In the first round of eliminations TJ and his Dissomma Racing Engines-powered Mustang rocketed to a new world record pass in outlaw 10.5 trim as a 4.115 at 188mph flashed on the boards as the crowd erupted with excitement. Kasper backed up the record on the next pass with 4.142-second lap to secure his spot in the record books.
With the Shakedown Nationals on the horizon, the questions becomes: who will walk away as the king of Outlaw 10.5 and just how low of an elapsed time will we see? Can they go 4.0’s? Only time will tell, so stay tuned!
