Ryan Martin’s ’69 Camaro Damaged In Australia Crash

The last thing you want to have happen when you’re racing half a world away, in a place that’s rich in fabricating talent, but short on immediate access to physical parts and pieces, is to tear up a racecar. But that’s the situation that’s been dealt to “Street Outlaws” star Ryan Martin.

Martin, who arrived this week in Perth, Australia with nine of his “405” and “No Prep Kings” counterparts for a four-race tour of the drag-racing-rabid nation, was testing at the Perth Motorplex on Thursday ahead of this weekend’s opening race when he lost control of his small-tire 1969 Camaro at the top end, and nosed the car into the wall. The ordeal is no doubt a rarity for Martin, who otherwise has a virtually spotless driving record over his many years of competition in the world’s quickest and most volatile race cars. Nevertheless, he emerged from the car without a scratch, and he and his team, including noted sidekick Javier Canales, got to work assessing the situation to determine how they could repair the car thousands of miles away from their shop, and likely weeks away from access to the parts they need, but needing a running car in a matter of days to deliver for their fans around Australia this once-in-a-lifetime show.

According to the team, a plan has been hatched and the car is on its way to Sydney for repairs as we write this. Martin noted that the biggest challenge, of course, will be finding a suitable replacement for the one-off carbon-fiber front end that, even in the U.S., would be difficult to replace in short order, much less in Australia. Martin says with the utmost of confidence, though, that he’ll be back and running in time for the second scheduled event, at Willowbank Raceway, March 3-4.

The Street Outlaws versus Australia tour will also feature a stop at Sydney Dragway in Eastern Creek the weekend of March 10-11, and Calder Park Raceway in Calder Park March 17 and 19, before the gang loads their cars back into their respective containers and ships them back stateside to begin gearing up for the “No Prep Kings” season six opener.

Martin is being joined on the tour by Jeff Lutz, Robin Roberts, Scott Taylor, Kye Kelley, Lizzy Musi, FarmTruck, “Disco Dean” Karns, Justin Swanstrom, and Shawn “Murder Nova” Ellington.
