Florida’s Scotty Guadagno has been a long-time proponent of nitrous oxide, and he recently rolled his Scotty’s Racing Engines-powered machine to a personal best 4.19 at 174.41 MPH, at Shadyside Dragway in a test session after their race just over a week ago.
In competition during the race, Guadagno cranked off his personal-best competition pass with a 4.28, making it an all-around great weekend for the well known team. His combination differs from the vast majority of competitors in the Radial Vs. The World class, as he’s running a “small” 762 cubic-inch engine with a big-block Chevrolet 5-inch bore-space setup at over 2,700 pounds, making the accomplishment even more stunning.
With the 4.19, he becomes only the second competitor in the class running nitrous oxide into the four-teen range, with Jamie Hancock the only other radial-equipped nitrous-powered competitor ahead of him. He’s been chipping away at the Camaro’s performance for several years now, swapping to the radial tire a few years ago and having a good measure of success with the change.
Guadagno has long been part of Team Pro Torque, running Joe Rivera’s torque converters when the company didn’t even have much of a presence in the performance aftermarket.
“Scotty has been one of the oldest and dearest Team Pro Torque members and has been a test bed for the latest converter designs for the last 15-plus years. Those guys have swapped more converters in that car than any other team alive. And from the bottom of our hearts we can’t thank them enough and look forward to the fall and good weather to see how fast they can run,” Rivera says.
